Position: Full-Time Histotechnician/Histotechnologist Department: Histology Lab Location: UPMC Passavant Shifts: Monday to Friday 1st Shift (no weekends or holidays required!) Histotechnician starting rate: $19.67/hr Senior Histotechnician starting rate: $22.33/hr Histotechnologist starting rate: $22.17/hr Senior Histotechnologist starting rate: $24.65/hr **Title and salary are based on education and experience. Senior experience levels available for both titles! Sign-On Bonus of $12,000 - $15,000 with a 2-year commitment based on level of experience! Responsibilities: Demonstrate complete knowledge of CoPath related to Histology workflow. Process and prepare various types of tissue samples using a variety of techniques in a clinical laboratory. Comply with all UPMC and departmental policies, procedures and work practices. Demonstrates progression of skills towards working independently in an advanced staining area. Perform ancillary or miscellaneous tasks such as filing, cleaning, stocking supplies. Perform QC checks at each phase of processing/ staining Process and prepare surgical and autopsy tissue specimens for embedding, cutting, staining and coverslipping. Embed and cut specialized tissue based on location including minute biopsy protocols. Supports academic mission of department. Ensures all tissues are embedded and cut according to department specific protocols with proper orientation and complete sections including no folds, chatter, artifacts or floaters. Accurately prepares slides for microtomy using the barcode label in order to maintain correct patient identification throughout the process. Maintain instruments following quality control specifications and daily maintenance protocols. *Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors. *Performs other duties as assigned. Histotechnician Requirements: · High school diploma · Successful completion of a NAACLS-accredited Histotechnician (HT) program within the last 5 years · OR an Associate’s degree or at least 60 semester hours from a regionally accredited college/university, including a combination of 12 semester hours in biology and chemistry · 1 year of clinical laboratory experience post-training preferred · Licensure: · HT (ASCP) required within 18 months of hire · Act 34 with renewal Histotechnologist Requirements: · Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) from a regionally accredited college/university with a combination of 30 semester hours (or 45 quarter hours) in biology and chemistry · Successful completion of a NAACLS-accredited Histotechnician or Histotechnology program within the last 5 years · OR 1 year of full-time acceptable experience in a histopathology laboratory within the last 10 years · Lab must be located in the U.S., Canada, or a CAP/The Joint Commission (JCAHO)/AABB-accredited facility · Experience must be under the supervision of a board-certified pathologist (Anatomic Pathology) or a board-certified medical scientist · 1 year of full-time experience in a histology laboratory preferred · Licensure: · HTL (ASCP) required within 1 year of hire · Act 34 with renewal UPMC is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
