Preferred Qualifications Role Purpose Responsible for providing a variety of routine, special and/or complex tests and procedures on tissue and related surgical specimens submitted for histological examination to aid in the confirmation of patient diagnosis. This role performs a variety of complex and atypical assignments as well as standard work processes and procedures. Responsibilities Trained to perform tissue gross examination as needed. (Must meet the High Complexity qualifications as written in CLIA 42CFR493) Tasks to include, but not limited to light, frozen, and fluorescent microtomy, embedding, staining, reagent preparation. Performs immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescent staining Performs and documents quality controls. Selects tissue for control library and maintains control library inventory. Assists with validation of new histochemical and immunohistochemical stains. Processing, microtomy and staining of non-decalcified bone for metabolic bone disease. Processing, microtomy and staining of ophthalmic specimens and whole orbit pathology. Understands technical and critical thinking skills to embed, cut and stain tissue from a variety of body sites. Knowledge of neuropathology, pediatrics and subspecialized anatomic pathology. Provides slides, tissue sections and ribbons for a variety of research and clinical trial protocols. Prepare slides for whole slide digital imaging during frozen section procedures BJC has determined this is a safety-sensitive position.
