The Hmong Language and Culture Revitalization Specialist/ Teacher is responsible for planning, organizing and implementing an appropriate learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential base on HOPE’s instructional curriculum for students. Work is performed under the supervision of the principal.

Professional Accountabilities

  • Maintains professional competence by attending staff development programs, curriculum development meetings and other professional activities.
  • Participates in various school events, staff meetings and extracurricular activities.
  • Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Principal or other appropriate administrator.
  • Serve as a role model for promoting effective instruction and professionalis

Qualifications

  • Must be fluent in the Hmong Language (speaking, writing, and culture)
  • B.A/B.S. degree in teaching from an accredited institution or related field of teaching.
  • Minnesota State Licensure in teaching in the appropriate subject area.
  • Strong desire and commitment to working with diverse students and staff.
  • Ability and flexibility to interact effectively with students, parents, and other school staff, the administration, and community members of diverse ethnic/racial and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Ability to collaborate with grade level teachers, paraprofessionals, and tutors regarding instructional classroom activities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Have knowledge of best practices, instructional strategies, classroom management and behavior management.
  • Ability to plan and implement lesson plans based on school goals, as well as the objectives, and needs of students.
  • Ability to adapt teaching styles to diverse student populations.
  • Ability to utilize computer and multimedia technology, as appropriate.

Responsibilities
  • Plan, prepare and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials to facilitate active learning of the Hmong language and culture.
  • Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment.
  • Prepare the classroom for class activities and implements goals, objectives and standards of the school.
  • Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.
  • Evaluate student performance through examinations and homework assignments to promote student achievement. Provide appropriate feedback on work.
  • Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems; assess student academic and behavioral needs by establishing and enforcing school rules and procedures.
  • Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss students’ progress and interpret the school program.
  • Clearly communicate assessment criteria to parents; and involve parents/guardians in meaningful ways to maximize student learning and achievement.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of students’ progress and development as well as data collection on the Hmong program.
  • Prepare required reports on students and activities.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
  • Performs classroom management duties, maintains discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school.
