About the Home and Garden Maintenance Care Worker
Home and Garden Maintenance Care Worker supports independence for older people by providing high quality repairs or maintenance of the home and garden to improve safety, accessibility and independence for the participant, by minimising environmental health and safety hazards. This includes:
This is a part time (20 hours per week) ongoing position based at Trevor Pearcy House, Bruce ACT but will be working at participant’s home and community locations predominantly.
accessible, low maintenance garden redesign to support wellness and reablement goals
minor plumbing, electrical and carpentry repairs where participant safety is an issue
repair of internal flooring and external access pathways to address slip and trip hazards
secure access issues for participants’ personal safety
light garden maintenance – essential pruning, yard clearance or lawn mowing where there are issues for participant safety and access.

SELECTION CRITERIA FOR THE ROLE:
Current First Aid and CPR certificate (or willingness to obtain)
Current Driver’s Licence and access to a registered, comprehensively insured motor vehicle for work related purposes.
Experience and high-level skills in the provision of home and garden maintenance with an understanding of best practice guidelines in the safe use of garden and maintenance tools and machinery.
An understanding of the scope of direct care that can be delivered under the CHSP and HCP guidelines
Desirable: Working towards Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing) or equivalent qualification

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE ROLE:
Tools such as hedging and trimming kits, mowers etc. will be provided by CRCS
The tools will need to be picked from the office site and transported in the incumbent’s vehicle to the designated site
Participants homes are located all over Canberra; so incumbent will be required to drive from one location to another location
Home maintenance tasks include basic level handyman activities such as cleaning windows (no climbing ladders), oiling door hinges, replacing fly screens etc.
Green waste will need to be taken away by the incumbent and additional time will be provided for this purpose.
