Salary range:  Grade 9 (£42,060 - £43,680pa with OOH enhancements) - plus fantastic benefits Contract: Permanent - Evenings (5 pm to 12:00 am), weekends & bank holidays  Hours of work: 36 hours per week  Location: Croydon   Croydon Council is looking for experienced and confident Homelessness Officer to join our Out of Hours Service, to assess those approaching the service with a housing need during Out of Hours.     About the role * Assess those approaching the service with a housing need during Out of Hours. * To carry out early homeless prevention activities. * Advise on a range of housing issues and welfare benefits, assessing support needs and working with multiple internal and external services to alleviate homelessness and provide households with positive options and sustainable housing solutions. * To carry out in-depth homelessness inquiries and make legally sound decisions under the relevant Legislation. * Produce clear, high-quality assessments and case records. * Identify and provide positive, effective, and often complex legal housing advice and information to customers, colleagues, and professionals from other agencies, in compliance with the Landlord & Tenant Acts, benefits legislation, Protection from Eviction Act, Housing and Homelessness Acts, and other related legislation. * You’ll be there when families need us most, working 5pm–12am on weekdays and on weekends and bank holidays.   About you  * Thorough knowledge of the legislation and duties owed to homeless persons by the Council * Knowledge of the duties owed to young people under the Children’s Act 1989 * Detailed working knowledge of homeless prevention initiatives and their application and effectiveness. * Detailed working knowledge of the welfare benefits system and its application  * Able to organise workload effectively, work within agreed deadlines and prioritise urgent cases. * Ability to work with other agencies to ensure the best outcome for the customer, including supporting negotiations between agencies to reach positive outcomes. * Able to work in a multidisciplinary setting and to build working relationships with internal and external agencies. * Able to provide a caring and responsive service to customers, listening to and understanding their individual needs and concerns and addressing those needs and concerns as far as possible within the given resource constraints.   Requirements  * Educated to a degree level or have significant experience working in a customer-driven service that works for the best customer outcome and strives for continuous improvement. * Experience and knowledge of housing case law, homelessness, tenancy relations and good practice. * Experience of working in a pressured work environment that is target and deadline driven. * Experience working in a multi-disciplinary environment. * The role requires you to work during out of hours including being office based in Croydon   Why Croydon?
