MINNETRISTA MUSEUM & GARDENS Job Title: Horticulture Laborer Department: Horticulture Supervisor: Director of Horticulture Location: 216 St. Joseph FLSA Status: Non-exempt, Part-time Seasonal Organizational Function: Front Line Staff   PURPOSE: Perform physically demanding labor to maintain the gardens and horticultural areas at Minnetrista. This includes heavy lifting, mulching, weeding, planting, and other routine grounds maintenance. Support the horticulture team in accomplishing daily and weekly assignments while ensuring a welcoming and positive visitor and volunteer experience.   QUALIFICATIONS: * High school diploma or equivalent required; additional courses in horticulture or related fields preferred. * General knowledge of horticulture or natural resources preferred. * Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including heavy lifting, extended periods of standing, bending, and working outdoors in various weather conditions. * Strong work ethic, teamwork skills, and ability to follow instructions. * Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a manual transmission vehicle around the grounds.   To be successful in this position, an individual must be aligned with Minnetrista’s cultural values and visitor-centric focus. Carry out job functions by completing the following essential duties directly:   JOB DUTIES: * Perform manual labor tasks such as mulching, weeding, raking, digging, and planting. * Load, transport, and distribute materials such as soil, mulch, and plants. * Use hand tools and basic landscaping equipment safely and effectively. * Assist in the care of gardens and natural areas, including watering, pruning, and deadheading plants. * Maintain clean and organized work areas, including proper storage of tools and materials. * Greet and interact with visitors in a professional manner, answering basic horticulture-related questions. * Follow and maintain current knowledge of safe gardening measures, utilizing appropriate safety gear and equipment. * Perform all other duties required.   WORK ENVIRONMENT: * Work outdoors in various weather conditions, including heat, cold, and rain. Perform physically strenuous activities, including standing, stooping, bending, climbing stairs, pushing, pulling, carrying, reaching, crawling, and crouching at any given time. Lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Move about a 40-acre main campus. Work hours require flexibility, including occasional evenings and weekends.
