POSITION: HORTICULTURE LEADING HAND

Number of Positions Available: 2
Location: Bay of Plenty
Pay Rate: $34 – $40 per hour
Minimum Hours of Work Per Week: 30
Maximum Hours of Work Per Week: 40

Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise and assist workers in daily orchard activities including pruning, planting, harvesting, and maintenance
  • Train new staff on correct horticultural techniques and safe equipment use
  • Monitor work quality and productivity, providing feedback to team members
  • Operate horticultural machinery and tools as needed
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental policies
  • Report progress, issues, and maintenance needs to the orchard manager
  • Assist in irrigation management and pest/disease control programs
  • Oversee produce quality checks before dispatch
  • Keep accurate records of daily work activities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee daily operations of orchard sites to ensure productivity and quality targets are met
  • Plan, coordinate, and monitor orchard activities including planting, pruning, spraying, irrigation, and harvesting
  • Manage and allocate workforce across different orchard blocks
  • Ensure correct use and maintenance of horticultural machinery and equipment
  • Liaise with orchard owners, contractors, and suppliers to ensure smooth operations
  • Maintain compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations
  • Monitor crop health and implement pest and disease control measures
  • Keep accurate records of production, maintenance, and staff activities
  • Train and develop team leaders and orchard workers
  • Report regularly to senior management on operational progress
