PAY AND FAIR LABOR STANDARDS ACT (FLSA) STATUS: Pay Range: 414 Hourly Rate: $22.43 - $34.71 FLSA Status: Non-Exempt The normal starting pay for this position is the minimum of the pay range listed above. JOB SUMMARY This posting will be used to fill a current vacancy in the Natural Resources Division of the Parks and Recreation Department within the City of Oklahoma City. An eligibility list will be established or supplemented for filling future vacancies per provisions of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Collective Bargaining Agreement. This job is located in the Horticulture Sections of the Parks and Recreation Department and is under the direction of an immediate supervisor. The Horticulture Worker II is responsible for providing functional supervision to work crews engaged in maintaining horticulture gardens and planting areas. An employee in this classification performs work requiring knowledge and skills acquired prior to assuming the position. Essential job functions include: establishing work schedules and assigning workers to complete tasks such as fertilizing, irrigating, seeding, planting, harvesting, mowing, raking, spraying, and repairing various irrigation systems; assuming full responsibility for vehicles and equipment used as well as work performed by various crews; enforcing safety regulations and procedures regarding manpower and equipment usage; inspecting materials, equipment, and work projects; maintaining work records; providing technical information, assistance and training regarding proper work methods and procedures; and recommending productivity improvement measures. The employee will complete work related activity reports in the performance of assigned tasks and may direct and assist workers in the performance of more critical tasks and in the maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment. Work assignments are received in written and verbal form depending on the work situation. This job may require contact with the public to explain job procedures or to answer questions concerning work being performed. Work is reviewed through regular inspections by the supervisor and/or review of daily activity reports completed by the employee.
