Description

ABOUT US

Kambarang Garden Centre is a locally owned nursery with a proud history and a strong focus on quality plants, expert advice, and friendly customer service tailored to Perth gardens.
We’re looking for a passionate horticulturist to join our team in a casual role that blends hands-on plant care with retail sales. This is a great opportunity to grow your skills and industry knowledge while helping customers create thriving gardens.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

We are seeking a qualified horticulturist with a Certificate III in Horticulture or higher. Candidates who are currently completing their qualification or have significant hands-on experience will also be considered.
While retail or nursery experience is highly regarded, we are open to providing on-the-job training to help the right candidate grow their knowledge and confidence in a retail environment.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Certificate III in Horticulture or currently working towards it.
  • Previous experience in a retail or nursery environment (minimum 12 months preferred but not essential).
  • Experience identifying and treating plant pests and diseases.
  • Customer service experience and the ability to confidently assist customers with decisions.
  • Comfortable using computers for tasks such as entering stock data, navigating retail systems, and contributing to social media content.
  • Understanding of Perth soils, climate, and plant requirements.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Forklift licence (advantageous but not essential).
  • Experience programming and operating computer-controlled irrigation systems.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As a horticulturist, you’ll play a vital role in both plant care and customer service, ensuring our stock is healthy, our displays are inspiring, and our customers receive the best advice for their needs.
The position involves physical, outdoor work and regular interaction with the public. You’ll help maintain a high standard of plant presentation and drive sales by providing friendly, knowledgeable service.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Care for a wide range of plants, including watering, pest/disease identification and treatment, pruning, and general maintenance.
  • Assist customers in selecting plants and products, asking questions to ensure suitability for their soil, garden conditions, and long-term success.
  • Drive sales by upselling and cross-selling products such as fertilisers, pots, and gardening supplies.
  • Receive, price, and display incoming plant stock, including rejecting substandard plants.
  • Maintain visually appealing displays and retail areas to encourage customer engagement.
  • Safely operate equipment and tools, following proper procedures at all times.
  • Perform occasional administrative tasks and serve customers at the till, including handling money.
  • Work collaboratively with the team to meet seasonal priorities and business goals.
  • Assist with other duties as required by management.
