Description The Hospital Scheduler is responsible for coordinating and scheduling surgical procedures performed at the hospital. This role manages surgical case logistics, operating room scheduling, and coordination with providers, anesthesia, and pre-op nursing to ensure patients are procedurally ready for surgery. Key Responsibilities Schedule surgical procedures and assign operating room time Coordinate surgery dates and times with providers and anesthesia Manage operating room block utilization Ensure all surgical cases meet facility and anesthesia scheduling requirements Track required pre-surgical documentation, including: History & Physical (H&P) Medical clearances Lab results and diagnostic testing Surgical consents Serve as the primary liaison between clinic schedulers, pre-op nurses, providers, and anesthesia Monitor case readiness timelines and identify potential scheduling risks Escalate incomplete requirements to appropriate parties prior to surgery Maintain accurate surgical schedules and documentation in the EHR Requirements Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required; healthcare-related education preferred Prior experience in surgical scheduling, hospital operations, or perioperative services Knowledge of surgical workflows and anesthesia requirements preferred Strong coordination and follow-up skills Ability to manage time-sensitive deadlines Key Competencies Detail orientation Cross-functional communication Problem-solving Ability to manage high-volume, deadline-driven work Performance Indicators Low day-of-surgery cancellations High percentage of on-time, ready surgical cases Efficient operating room utilization Complete and accurate surgical documentation prior to pre-op review
