Description Job Title: Hospitality Instructor Full-Time, 10 Month, Role Level 3 Reports To: Sr. Director of Workforce Development and Deputy School Leader Supervisory Responsibilities: No Who We Are: YouthBuild Philadelphia Charter School is a tuition-free, public charter high school, with a singular focus on supporting youth aged 17-20 who have been pushed out of traditional schools. During our 1-year alternative program, Youthbuild facilitates a warm, loving culture that uses a variety of structures to build community, such as a restorative-justice approach to discipline, weekly community meetings, and school-wide service projects. Students are empowered to attain their high school diploma and vocational certifications, while receiving unconditional support by the staff around them. The Opportunity: The Hospitality Instructor prepares students for entry-to mid-level roles in front-of-house operations across the foodservice and hospitality industries while building transferable 21st-century skills essential for long-term success. This role teaches customer service, ordering logistics, table setup and spacing, and guest relations in an engaging, hands-on environment. Working in close partnership with the Culinary Instructor, the Hospitality Instructor ensures a cohesive learning experience that integrates ServSafe training, job readiness, and authentic practice through YouthBuild’s growing culinary social enterprise. At least 3 years of professional experience in hospitality, restaurant, or hotel management preferred ServSafe Manager certification (or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire). A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university; Master’s Degree preferred. Requirements What You’ll Do: You will… Design and maintain a hospitality space that mirrors a professional restaurant or café, giving students authentic, hands-on experience. Lead engaging instruction on customer service, ordering logistics, table setup, spacing, and other essential front-of-house practices and work in lockstep with the culinary instructor to create a cohesive, high-quality culinary and hospitality learning experience. Contribute to the design, planning, and implementation of YouthBuild’s culinary social enterprise model, giving students real-world training opportunities. Design hospitality lessons that are hands-on, rich, and inviting, helping students develop confidence, professionalism, and teamwork. Build and maintain relationships with partner chefs and organizations to bring in guest presenters, create external exposure experiences, and build innovative partnership opportunities. Bring industry-level standards to the classroom while maintaining YouthBuild’s culture of respect, excellence, and perseverance. Establish a positive and productive learning environment based on strong relationships with students and implement restorative practices to support students. Support students in earning industry-recognized credentials, including assisting the Culinary Instructor in administering ServSafe Food Handler and Manager Certifications. Maintain systems for tracking student work hours, skill development, and job readiness progress. Collaborate with the specialized services team to ensure student success, by providing teacher input, attending IEP meetings and ensuring all students receive accommodations and modifications per the students’ IEPs and/or English language needs. Work in inter-departmental teams to support the success of a group of students as they move through our rigorous program. Track student progress, give frequent actionable feedback to students and document student progress to the greater community through PowerSchool. Stay current on industry updates and collaborate with the YB team to revise curriculum and learning experiences to match industry needs. Participate in a highly collaborative, fluid school culture that requires strong interpersonal skills and flexibility. Provide mentorship to a cohort of 4–5 students, offering consistent academic and personal support to help them stay on track toward meeting graduation requirements. Perform other duties, as assigned by the Director of Workforce Programming.
