Summary of Job Function: The Host is an integral part of the team at Bliley’s Funeral Homes & Cremation Center, working alongside licensed funeral directors and other dedicated, caring associates. With a title emphasizing dedication to hospitality and guiding guests with courtesy, professionalism, and compassion, Hosts support clients and the community throughout their experience with Bliley’s. This role requires excellent communication skills, a compassionate demeanor, and the ability to work flexible hours in a sensitive environment. At the entry level, Hosts greet and guide guests in our facilities and have no contact with deceased persons; if interested, and with adequate qualification and training, Hosts may assume additional responsibilities (each with commensurate compensation). Entry-Level Duties & Responsibilities: Maintain integrity of front lobby and public spaces, including cleanliness and appropriate environment Greet all guests who arrive at the funeral home with warmth, sensitivity, and professionalism Orient guests to public spaces, offering introductions, ensuring needs are met, and providing warm hand-offs to team members Welcome guests arriving for funeral arrangements, advanced planning appointments, picking up death certificates, or dropping off clothes or other personal effects. Greet walk-ins and other unexpected visitors Maintain active awareness of and sensitivity to guests present in facilities at all times Hosting Catered Receptions Hosting Viewings & Visitations Requirements High school diploma or GED Exhibits a high degree of sensitivity and caring for families experiencing a loss Well-groomed with a neat, clean, and professional appearance Pleasant personality and excellent communication skills Demonstrates consistent care & concern for guests and associates, regardless of diverse backgrounds and presentations Basic computer proficiency (email, clocking in and out, Internet navigation) Prior experience in customer service, healthcare, or funeral service environments preferred but not required Work Schedule: This is a per diem position which may require availability for days, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed. Hosts must work a minimum of one shift per quarter (i.e., every three months). This position serves all three of our Bliley’s locations as needed: Bliley’s Augusta (3801 Augusta Ave); Bliley’s Chippenham (6900 Hull Street Road); and Bliley’s Staples Mill (8510 Staples Mill Road).
