Hotel barge company offering luxury cruises on various canals in France, mainly the Canal de Bourgogne, Canal du Nivernais, Canal du Midi, and Canal de la Marne au Rhin.
Our barges operate with a crew of 5 to 6 people, including a pilot/captain, a tour guide/deckhand, one or two hosts, and a chef, catering to small groups of 8 to 12 guests maximum.
We offer all-inclusive week-long stays to our mainly international clientele, predominantly from the United States, to help them discover French history, culture, and gastronomy.
We are currently recruiting for a 2 weeks contract (from end of August until the begining of September 2025) for the position of Host/Deckhand (experience in housekeeping & catering) for one of our barges located in Scotland.

Main responsibilities for the Deckhand role include:

  • Assisting during navigation (lock passages, ports, etc.) and post-navigation tasks (setting up the gangway, connecting electricity, water, etc.)
  • Exterior maintenance of the barge and outdoor equipment (bikes, vehicles, etc.)
  • General support for the crew

Main responsibilities for the Host/Hostess role include:

  • Welcoming passengers
  • Cleaning and upkeep of the interior of the barge: cabins, common areas, indoor plants, bed-making and linen changes, etc.
  • Meal service and preparation: table setting, plate service, presentation of wines and cheeses, etc.
  • Stock management: breakfast supplies, cleaning products, etc.
  • This list is non-exhaustive; other tasks may be requested as part of the role.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience in inland navigation
  • Previous experience as a deckhand is essential
  • Energetic, autonomous, well-organized, and versatile
  • Fluent in English
  • Holder of a driving license
  • Curious, with a good knowledge of English history and culture, and good organizational skills
  • Enjoys working with people
  • Available for short-term replacements or the full season

SEASONAL FIXED-TERM CONTRACT FOR 2 WEEKS, WITH SALARY BASED ON EXPERIENCE

Crew members are provided with food and accommodation on board during the season.
