Job Title Host Hostess U Location Cleveland Facility Lutheran Hospital Department Food And Nutrition Service-Lutheran Hospital Job Code H0004W Shift Day/Evening/Night/Weekend Schedule 6:00am-2:30pm/10:30am-7:00pm Job Summary Responsible for a variety of specialized duties related to the receipt, interpretation, and follow-through of patient diet orders. Responsible for the delivery and collection of trays to and from patients. Ensures that nutrition care diet orders are provided to the patient by offering appropriate menu selections. Acts as a liaison between the patient, the Food and Nutrition Services Department, and Nursing Services. Communicates all patient food needs to the appropriate area of the Food and Nutrition Services Department. Assists the clinical staff in ensuring all patient basic nutrition care needs are met. Job Details Responsibilities: Maintains friendly, efficient, positive customer service attitude toward customers, clients and co-workers. Is responsive to customer needs. Answer phone line for room service patients' calls and requests. Document food order received over the phone. Call nursing stations, patients, and other employees to clarify diet orders. Organize paper work and files of room service meal orders. Observe patient's current diet on meal ticket. Set up patient trays to be delivered. Delivers patient trays during meal service. Delivers nourishments and/or snacks to patients as ordered by physician/dietitian in a timely manner (10:00 a.m. - 6:00p.m.) Visits patients to introduce the services of the Food and Nutrition Services Department. May obtain food preferences/dislikes from patient and/or family members. Ensures that all new admits receive a menu to select lunch and dinner. Maintains and adheres to all sanitation standards by following assigned cleaning schedules. Completes other sanitation tasks as assigned by the Supervisor/Relief Supervisor. Inventories and re-stocks pantries, refrigerator, and freezers on assigned unit(s). Maintains temperature logs for unit refrigerators and freezers. Utilizes good customer service skills by greeting all customers, visitors, and other staff in a friendly and courteous manner. Ensures prompt response to requests for service and follows up if delays or product availability problems are identified. Maintains friendly, efficient, positive customer service attitude toward customers, clients and co-workers. Is responsive to customer needs. Exhibits professional behavior at all times in all areas of the workplace by reporting to work neatly groomed and in proper uniform. Maintains the privacy, safety, and dignity of each customer by observing client confidentiality and by strictly adhering to safety and sanitation standards. Maintains compliance with Cleveland Clinic's standards of operation. Adheres to the organization's Business Conduct Policy at all times. Follows Food Production Standards in regards to handling techniques, food storage, and proper food temperatures and is responsible for completion of production sheets and temperature logs. Delivers early and late patient trays as needed in a timely manner (less than 30 minutes). Ensures timeliness of meal delivery. Reviews therapeutic diets using established patterns as a guide. As assigned, mentors/trains new host/hostesses effectively. Contributes to the Customer Service/Customer Satisfaction Imitative by identifying customers service issues that need corrections or adjustments and either corrects the issue or reports these issues to the supervisor/manager staff. Other duties as assigned. Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred. Certifications: None required. Complexity of Work: Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action. Work Experience: Must be able to fluently speak, read, and write English. Bilingual abilities preferred, but not required. Demonstrates proficiency in using CBORD computer system. Physical Requirements: Able to push carts weighing up to 350 lbs. Able to twist, stoop, bend and squat. Able to lift and carry up to 40 lbs. 20% of the day is standing, 60% walking and 20% sitting. Able to maintain focus and perform multiple tasks at one time. Personal Protective Equipment: Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
