Description The Housekeeper is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment throughout the hospital. This role involves cleaning and servicing patient rooms, baths, public areas, and specialized hospital units. The Housekeeper ensures high standards of cleanliness and infection control, with particular attention to isolation rooms and critical care areas such as the Operating Room (OR), Labor & Delivery (L&D), Nursery, and Intensive Care Unit (ICU). ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES Performs daily cleaning and sanitization of assigned hospital areas, including patient rooms, public spaces, restrooms, and support areas. Dusts furniture, equipment, and surfaces in rooms and public areas. Cleans interior and exterior windows, walls, and glass surfaces as assigned. Thoroughly cleans and disinfects restrooms, including toilets, showers, sinks, and fixtures; replenishes soap, paper towels, and other supplies. Vacuums rugs and carpets; dust mops or wet mops floors as required. Strips, waxes, and buffs floors; shampoos carpets as scheduled or needed. Empties and cleans waste receptacles and disposes of trash according to hospital procedures. Spot cleans walls, floors, doors, and other surfaces as needed. Cleans patient rooms thoroughly upon patient discharge or transfer. Demonstrates complete understanding and proficiency in isolation cleaning protocols and infection control procedures. Works in specialized areas including Operating Room (OR), Labor & Delivery (L&D), Nursery, Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and Isolation rooms following strict cleaning standards. Washes beds, cleans storage rooms, and performs other cleaning tasks as assigned. Weighs, sorts, and distributes clean linen as needed. Maintains a clean, organized, and professional appearance while representing the Environmental Services department. WORK SCHEDULE May be required to work evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays based on the needs of the hospital. Flexible scheduling is essential due to the 24/7 nature of hospital operations. Note: This is not an exhaustive list of duties. The employee may be asked to assist in other areas, perform additional tasks, or work schedules outside of normal hours as required by the hospital. Requirements POSITION QUALIFICATIONS High School diploma or GED equivalent required Previous housekeeping, janitorial, or custodial experience (preferably in a healthcare or institutional setting) Required: Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions in English Strong attention to detail and commitment to infection control standards Ability to work independently with minimal supervision Physical ability to perform repetitive tasks including bending, kneeling, lifting, pushing, and pulling (up to 50 lbs.) Willingness to work in a rural hospital environment and handle exposure to various cleaning chemicals and biohazardous materials
