JOB SUMMARY

The Housekeeper plays an important role in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for residents, families, visitors, and staff at Golden Age Manor. Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, this position involves a variety of cleaning and housekeeping duties that require strong knowledge of cleaning and disinfecting procedures, excellent customer service skills, and effective organization. By performing these tasks, the Housekeeper directly contributes to the well-being, safety, and quality of life of residents, their family and visitors.

  • Ability to manage time effectively to complete housekeeping duties efficiently.
  • Good body mechanics and proper lifting/transferring techniques.
  • Knowledge of safe work practices, including hazard identification, accident prevention, and proper use of PPE.
  • Awareness of infection control policies and cleaning protocols.
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure cleanliness, safety, and organization.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to the mission, values, and beliefs of the Golden Age Manor.
  • Courtesy, caring, and respect for residents, families, visitors, medical staff, co-workers, supervisors, and members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills with supervisors and team members.
  • Willingness to participate in ongoing personal education, including mandatory training sessions and workshops.
Responsibilities
  • Perform general housekeeping tasks, including floor cleaning (sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, stripping, and polishing), carpet vacuuming, steam-cleaning or shampooing, and deep cleaning of rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, locker rooms, and other public or common areas to meet the facility’s health and safety standards.
  • Service and supply restrooms; clean and change filters, drain traps, and unclog toilets as needed.
  • Clean windows, mirrors, and other surfaces using soapy water, sponges, or squeegees.
  • Gather and empty trash, ensuring proper disposal, and requisition cleaning supplies or equipment.
  • Dust, clean, and polish furniture, fixtures, walls, machines, or equipment to maintain a clean and polished environment.
  • Sort, count, and store clean linens. Sort clothing and other items, load washing machines, iron and fold dried laundry.
  • Maintain proper sanitation and cleanliness of all work areas, ensuring supplies and equipment are well organized and stored safely.
  • Report unsafe conditions or equipment concerns to the Maintenance Supervisor in a timely manner and take action to reduce risks immediately.
  • Assist in the protection of residents and staff by utilizing proper cleaning and disinfecting protocols.
  • Follow safe work practices, including proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and participate in fire drills, WHMIS, and safety training sessions.
  • Avoid unsafe work practices and provide feedback and support promptly to team members involved in unsafe working practices
  • Prepare and maintain records or documentation as required and actively participate in meetings or in-services to apply learning to the workplace.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
