Yaletown House is a non profit care facility for seniors with complex care needs and is located in Vancouver, BC. We provide quality health care and services to 127 senior residents in a safe, supportive and home like environment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Grade 10, an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
    This is a casual position, and the successful candidate will be assigned to either role based on the employer’s operational needs.
    Please note that successful applicants will be required to have a criminal record, medical and TB check at own cost.

Responsibilities

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES - HOUSEKEEPER ($24.34 PER HOUR)

  • Perform housekeeping on resident floor(s) and other areas as assigned, using established procedures.
  • Cleans areas such as floors, stairways, walls, window and walkways by methods such as sweeping, spot washing and damp mopping.
  • Cleans carpets and rugs by methods such as vacuuming, brushing and shaking.
  • Cleans items such as furniture, woodwork, ledges, fixtures and blinds by methods such as dusting, polishing and wiping.
  • Cleans and disinfects washrooms and replenishes items such as soap and paper towels.
  • Empties and cleans waste containers.
  • Re-lock resident room doors after cleaning according to security procedures.
  • Performs terminal cleaning of vacant rooms by cleaning floors and walls by activities such as damp mopping and spot washing. Identifies repair needs and reports to supervisor. Strips and makes beds; cleans and tidies items such as cupboards, basins and tables.
  • Reports damaged, inoperable fixtures, furniture and safety concerns by means of filling out a maintenance requisition. Reports unsafe or faulty equipment and safety concerns to supervisor or designate.
  • Maintains related equipment by cleaning and replacing items such as filter bags.
  • Restocks utility rooms and housekeeping carts.
  • Completes and signs resident room checklist and audit sheets.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES - LAUNDRY AIDE ($25.26 PER HOUR)

  • Sorts and weighs soiled linen and personal garments and selects wash formula according to linen type. Loads and unloads non-domestic washers and/or dryers; operates same by selecting pre determined wash cycles, setting dryer temperatures and switching on machines.
  • Monitors machines during cycle to ensure safe and effective functioning. Ensures that established standards of production and safety are met.
  • Fold, sort, count and records linen and personal laundry for control purposes and maintains related records. Loads laundry delivery carts and resident garment carts.
  • Deliver and distributes carts to user areas.
  • Irons resident personal laundry as needed using electric press when time permits.
  • Labels resident clothing and selected facility linen items using a label maker and heat seal machine.
  • Checks laundry supplies and advises supervisor when supplies are low.
  • Checks for call-in phone messages at beginning of shift, replaces any call-in shifts or passes message on to supervisor.
  • Cleans the laundry and linen areas by activities such as sweeping and damp wiping counter, folding areas and machine front surfaces. Identifies and reports to supervisor the need for repairs and or cleaning of laundry area such as high dusting, changing burnt out lights, and floor cleaning.
  • Reports damaged, inoperable fixtures, furniture and safety concerns by means of entering maintenance request into the IGOR maintenance computer program. Reports unsafe or faulty equipment and safety concerns to supervisor or designate.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
