As a Housekeeper at St Luke’s Hospice, you will play a key role in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for patients, their loved ones, visitors, and colleagues. You will collaborate with the wider facilities and care teams, ensuring our clinical and non-clinical areas meet infection prevention, health, and safety requirements at all times. Main Duties and Responsibilities Carry out thorough daily and periodic cleaning of patient bedrooms, bathrooms, team facilities, and communal areas to a consistently high standard. Ensure all cleaning protocols are adhered to in line with infection prevention, control guidance, and Hospice policies. Use suitable cleaning equipment and chemicals safely and appropriately, reporting any faults to the Property Maintenance team. Support the safe disposal of waste as per St Luke's Hospice procedures. Replenish cleaning materials and basic stock (such as paper towels, soap, toilet roll) in designated areas. Communicate effectively and sensitively with patients, families, visitors, and colleagues, respecting individual needs and dignity at all times. Recognise and report any maintenance, health and safety, or safeguarding concerns promptly to the relevant team. Work flexibly as part of the wider Housekeeping team and support event or room set up as required. Promote and maintain a positive, welcoming, and inclusive environment, upholding the values and reputation of St Luke’s Hospice. Salary, Contract, and Working Hours Salary: £12.21 per hour Contract: Permanent, Part Time Hours: 25 hours per week, Monday to Sunday on a rotating shift pattern Location: Thurrock Hospice (RM14 3EB). Essential Criteria – Skills and Experience Previous experience in a Housekeeper, Cleaner, Facilities Assistant, or similar cleaning operative role. Awareness of infection control, health, and safety procedures in a healthcare or care setting. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, taking responsibility for the quality of your own work. Excellent attention to detail and commitment to delivering consistently high standards. Sensitivity, reliability, and a caring attitude towards patients and their families in a hospice environment. Good communication skills and a flexible, helpful approach to service needs. Ability to undertake physical tasks, including lifting, reaching, and standing for extended periods. Desirable – Skills and Experience Experience working in a healthcare, hospice, or care home environment. Understanding of COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) guidelines. Willingness to participate in training and development relevant to housekeeping and infection control. Personal Qualities Trustworthy, dependable, and professional with a positive attitude. Empathetic, approachable, and supportive, able to work sensitively in emotionally challenging situations. Adaptable and willing to assist colleagues across the wider Hospice team.
