Job Details JOB SUMMARY Performs, daily, the routine and non-routine cleaning functions as assigned through Vicars Landing in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations governing our facility; and as may be instructed by the Director of Housekeeping/Laundry Services, to provide a safe, sanitary and attractive environment for all Members, guests and employees. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Maintains quality index range of 75-89% effectiveness. Performs cleaning functions as assigned according to departmental procedures. Make recommendations to the Director. Assures personnel and staff are compliant with policies and procedures. Cleaning chemicals are mixed to proper use-dilution. Cleaning chemicals are not mixed with any other product except those specifically listed on product label. Cleaning chemical solutions are placed in properly labeled bottles approved for the product. Assigns schedules and duties to housekeeping staff. Supplies and equipment necessary to complete work assignments for staff. Prepared to begin assignments for the day. Ensures All equipment used is thoroughly cleaned and returned to storage areas in designated spaces by the end of the shift. All broken, damaged, or inoperative equipment and hazardous conditions are reported to the Director or Assistant. Housekeeping Service equipment is tagged as inoperative with a description of the problem. Empty containers or boxes are removed and properly disposed of in dumpster. Annual sick time does not exceed 5% or 13 days per year. Reports to work on time 95% of the time. Does not continue to work more than scheduled hours or clock-in ahead of scheduled shift time unless authorized. Properly notifies Director or Assistant when absent or late to work. Nametag is worn daily on shirts. Uniform, hair, and shoes are neat and clean. Assist in the recruitment and selection of the housekeeping personnel and assist in determining staffing requirements necessary to meet the housekeeping needs and assure that sufficient housekeeping personnel are on duty each day. Trains, monitors, and evaluates all housekeeping staff and recommends discipline and implements appropriate procedures with approval of department head. Members are treated with consideration, respect and full recognition of their dignity and individuality. Medical condition and treatment discussed with others only as medically necessary to maintain safety and ensure well-being of Member. Personal possessions are treated with utmost care. Knocks on door and identifies self when entering room/apartment. Makes rounds and inspections to assure that the housekeeping personnel are performing required duties, appropriate housekeeping procedures are being rendered, and quality control measures are continually maintained. Also performs all duties of housekeeping service workers. Attends and participates in at least 80% of in-services education classes, on-the- job training programs etc. Attends and participates in 80% of monthly departmental meetings. 10. Is cooperative in completing additional duties displaying consistent “can-do” approach to variations in assignments. Works efficiently and makes effective use of time to avoid undue delay, backlog, or general disorder of work. Adjusts work hours to accommodate workload as needed. Qualifications JOB REQUIREMENTS Skills, Abilities & Competencies: ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: Ability to read, write and speak some English & Spanish; perform basic arithmetic; follow written and oral instructions in English & Spanish. Ability to climb, stoop, walk, stand, bend, and move intermittently throughout the assigned shift. Ability to lift or move a minimum of 50 pounds. Ability to see, hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to assure the requirement of this position are fully met. Ability to function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, and support agencies. Ability to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset and at times, hostile people within the facility. May be exposed to unsanitary conditions, unpleasant odors, dust, chemicals, and verbal abuse of residents. NON-ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: High School diploma or equivalent certificate desired One year in commercial or residential housekeeping is preferred. Ability to work at heights of over 10 feet in cramped quarters. HOUSEKEEPING TEAM LEADER DESCRIPTION OF WORK An employee in this class performs housekeeping duties and functions as a supervisor over a small group of housekeepers engaged in housekeeping within a limited, designated area of a state facility on an assigned shift. Teamwork assignments follow a prescribed routine. The supervisor is responsible for maintaining established standards daily. Much of the Supervisor’s time is spent performing cleaning duties and observing work in progress, with some time required and involved daily for adjusting and inspecting work progress, carrying out special instructions, or resolving cleaning problems. The size of the physical area and number of employees assigned will vary according to use and purpose of facility, volume of pedestrian traffic, and intensity and frequency of cleaning process. Work is performed subject to close review and inspection, with problems not covered in instructions referred to by a supervisor. Work is evaluated in terms of results of team efforts in maintaining required standards. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES PERFORMED The Housekeeping supervisor is responsible for ensuring that standards of cleanliness in assigned areas are achieved and maintained on a consistent basis to provide the highest level of member satisfaction in cleanliness and service, within the established time limitations. Specifically, this position is responsible for checking the work of other Housekeepers based on the standards of cleanliness at the direction and in the absence of the Director/ Assistant of Housekeeping. The Housekeeping Supervisor will also fulfill the same daily role and responsibilities of a Housekeeper as needed/scheduled and/or at the direction of the Director of Housekeeping or Assistant Director of Housekeeping. Performs full range of housekeeping duties as assigned or required. Instructs and assists team housekeeping in on-the-job cleaning procedures and techniques, special procedures, or problems. Adjusts assignments or cleaning schedule of team members to ensure adequate absences or emergencies may require. Observes, inspects, and monitors quality and quantity of work while in progress or upon completion. Advises of additional or corrective cleaning applications needed; reports unresolved problems to Director or Assistant Director of Housekeeping. Prepares requisitions and obtains cleaning supplies and materials; distributes supplies as needed. Serves as liaison with superiors and agency staff in area assigned. Performs related duties as required. Effectively copes with accelerating changes. Completes required forms accurately and in a timely manner (service request, accident/incident reports, inspections, inventories, evaluations) IN COMPLIANCE WITH the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's (OSHA) requirements relative to precautions to prevent the spread of blood borne diseases, the following information is provided concerning this position: HOUSEKEEPING SERVICES STAFF, (i.e.: *Housekeeper I *Housekeeper Team Leader *Housekeeping Supervisor * Assistant Director of Housekeeping *Laundry I *Laundry Supervisor ARE PLACED IN CATEGORY I DUE TO THEIR POSSIBLE CONTACT WITH BODILY FLUIDS IN THE COMPLETION OF THEIR ROUTINE JOB FUNCTIONS OF PROCESSING SOILED LAUNDRY FROM THE HEALTH CENTER. PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk hear, and occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, and crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds and be able to work at heights. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close, distance, and peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus as well as work on a computer for extended periods of time. The employee must be able to communicate verbally with others on the phone or in person.
