Housing Inspector
The Housing Inspector conducts housing inspections and reviews documentation to ensure compliance with HUD, DMH, and agency standards, while coordinating with clients, landlords, and care managers. Maintains accurate records, transports clients as needed, and adapts to changing schedules to meet program demands.

Education and Experience Requirements:

RELEVANT EDUCATION:

Preferred: Associate’s Degree
Minimum: High School

RELEVANT EXPERIENCE:

Preferred: 3+ years of subsidized housing experience
Minimum: 1 year of building trade or code enforcement experience

Responsibilities
  1. Responsible for performing timely and accurate initial, annual, emergency or special housing inspections in compliance with the Housing Quality Standards (HQS) as defined by Housing Urban Development’s (HUD) Chapter 10 guidelines and regulations, Department of Mental Health (DMH), and Agency/Program policies andprocedures;
  2. Responsible for collecting and reviewing Housing Assistance Payment (HAP) documentation in order to determine its accuracy for program eligibility;
  3. Responsible for responding to any inquiries and resolving any problems in a timely and efficient manner and consults with his/her supervisor, when needed;
  4. Coordinates unit inspections between client, landlord, care manager and DMH;
  5. Carries a caseload and maintains up-to-date and accurate client files, departmental files and databases, as required by agency/ programmatic policies and procedures, professional standards, and external requirements of all relevant regulatory, licensing or accrediting bodies in the course of performing job expectations;
  6. Must be willing to, with little to no notice, change in-house or in-field days in order to meet departmental demands, as needed;
  7. Transport clients to and from apartment viewing appointments and assist in moving clients as needed;
  8. Responsible for submitting weekly work logs;
  9. Knows and complies with the laws and regulations relevant to the position and services.
