POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Business Administration Certificate preferred
  • At least 5 years of general office experience
  • Proven experience interpreting financial and tenancy documents
  • Previous experience working within a First Nations community or organization is considered an asset
  • Knowledge of the Splatsin community is valued
  • Knowledge of the Residential Tenancy Act
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Responsibilities

POSITION PURPOSE:

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Housing Manager to join our team at Splatsin. Reporting directly to the Director of Infrastructure, the Housing Manager will be responsible for the planning, development, management and stewardship of the Housing Program including all band owned rental properties.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Track and manage rental housing units and tenants and prepare annual reports.
  • Set up and maintain accurate tenant records
  • Arrange and schedule inspections, repairs and maintenances as per instruction from the Director and/or Band administrator
  • Oversee the rent collection, application and eviction processes ensuring they occur in alignment with the Housing Policy and Committee directions.
  • Prompt follow up of repairs and maintenance, including site inspections to ensure completion
  • Prepare tenancy agreements and other associated documents
  • Conduct income verification research and report on findings
  • Review applications for completeness and eligibility and assist potentials as needed to complete each application successfully
  • Answer tenant and applicant questions on policies and responsibilities associated with living in rental housing
  • Maintain rent matrix
  • Send out invoices and statements monthly
  • Accept and manage rental housing applications
  • Follow up on outstanding accounts to encourage payment
  • Mediate conflict resolution in the case of tenant disputes
  • Assist with updating existing rental tenancy agreements and policies
  • Report on the status of the housing fleet as “advising chairperson” to the Housing Committee
  • Oversee community RRAP notices, screen applications and project manage the RRAP project
  • Manage AANDC renovation and mold remediation projects including organizing with FNHA to inspect homes, complete project work scopes, submitting applications and project managing remediation projects
  • Managing the CMHC Youth Internship initiative
  • Scheduling and providing work instructions to Housing Maintenance Staff
  • Developing the annual housing budget withing parameters set by the Director and managing expenses to budget throughout the year.
