Job Details Job Location: Charlotte, NC 28206 ROOF ABOVE Roof Above is NC’s most comprehensive homeless service provider. Our mission is to unite our community to end homelessness, one life at a time. Focusing on individuals experiencing homelessness, Roof Above offers everything from street outreach to shelter to Rapid Rehousing to Permanent Supportive Housing. Roof Above’s services and programs reach over 1,300 individuals every day across nine campuses in Charlotte. Roof Above was born through the merger of Urban Ministry Center and Men’s Shelter of Charlotte in 2019. POSITION SUMMARY The Housing Navigator’s primary responsibility is to help men obtain and maintain more appropriate housing. The Housing Navigator provides comprehensive case management assistance to an identified case load of clients seeking program services. The position will be serving guests at an alternative location on a former college campus. This position will be a part of a pilot position that is working to assist guests maintain employment and move from the dorm to more appropriate housing. In addition, the Housing Navigator completes assessment screenings, makes recommendations for services, and consults with shelter staff regarding any special needs. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Connects clients with housing resources, market rate housing, and other housing options. Connects clients with needed agency and outside services and monitors progress. Develops Individualized Service Plans with clients on case load and seeking or engaged in program services. Works with shelter staff to meet basic needs of clients. Provides crisis intervention assistance as needed. Tracks progress and services for each client on caseload. Participates on agency’s Program Team and works with other staff from Client Services. Serves as liaison to community-based and governmental service partners as directed. Participates in staff training and development activities as directed. Performs other duties as directed by supervisor. Qualifications EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED A Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or a related field, and a minimum of 2 years’ experience as a case manager; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Prior experience working with homeless populations, especially in a shelter setting, is preferred. Knowledge of, or ability to quickly develop competency with, issues related to homelessness, effective intervention techniques, and motivational interviewing. Basic understanding of mental health and substance abuse issues helpful. Knowledge of housing opportunities and programs for homeless individuals is important. Skill required to: plan, organize, and coordinate case management activities; communicate effectively orally and in writing; provide liaison to service partners, governmental agencies, and the public; promote social services programs and provide public relations; work effectively with staff, volunteers, clientele, and the public; prepare and present reports; manage client records in hardcopy and database formats. Ability to: work independently with minimal daily supervision; work as member of multiple teams; and compassionately engage and build trust with an often-difficult population. PROGRAM OVERVIEW WORKING ENVIRONMENT Responsibilities of the Housing Navigator involves flexible scheduling, and work beyond the regularly scheduled workday. This position will be scheduled from 8:30-5:30 Monday – Friday with one day of the week being a later workday of 11a-7p. OTHER REQUIREMENTS Must possess a current and valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and ability to be insured on the agency’s automobile policy. Must be able to drive agency-owned vehicles, including passenger vans. Must be able to lift 25-30 lbs. Perform other duties as assigned. Must be certified in CPR and First Aid or willingness and ability to complete certification within 60 days of hire. Perform other duties as assigned.
