HOW YOU’LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE

As a Housing Officer with South Gloucestershire Council, you will work with landlords to procure and manage private sector lets for homelessness prevention, and deliver the Councils statutory duty to provide emergency and temporary accommodation.

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU

  • You’ll have a significant understanding of the needs of vulnerable people and minority groups tackling inequality and social exclusion.
  • You must have experience in dealing with competing issues and identifying priorities, making sound judgements to deliver what is best for the service effectively and efficiently.
  • You should have knowledge of relevant legislation including Housing Act 1996 Part VII, landlord and tenant law, and civil procedures, and of working within rehousing policies.You shall have excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Please note that due to the nature of this role it is a requirement of employment that an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is obtained for this post

Responsibilities:

  • On a daily basis, you will be providing advice, receiving and resolving queries and complaints from landlords and tenants and escalating a case when necessary.
  • You will be supporting tenants to ensure their homes are safe by working closely with local agencies and any other relevant services that are required. As well as carrying out health and safety checks and managing any anti-social behaviour issues.
  • You will be required to manage approximately thirty properties, you’ll facilitate property inspections, arrange repairs and offer advice and guidance to the customers on maintaining their property and their rights as tenants.
  • It will be your responsibility to oversee the collection of rent.
  • In the role you will be expected to assess applicants and ascertain if they meet the required criteria.
  • You will be required to maintain current and build new relationships with landlords
