Volunteers of America-Greater New York (VOA-Greater New York) is an anti-poverty organization working to end homelessness in the New York area by 2050. We operate over 60 programs across New York City, Northern New Jersey and Westchester County including emergency, transitional and permanent housing. Our services extend to families experiencing homelessness, survivors of domestic violence, people living with HIV/AIDS, veterans, youth aging out of foster care, adults with behavioral health or substance use needs, and others in need, including a special education preschool program. We are in search of new talent in the following position… Position: Housing Placement Coordinator The Housing Placement Coordinator manages operations of Housing Department at the Adult Assessment Shelter. Supervises Housing Specialist. Facilitates placing long term shelter residents into permanent housing, develop permanent housing options in both the public and private sectors, ensure housing readiness of single male adults, maintains turnover records for client placements. The Schwartz Assessment Shelter is a shelter for men operating 24 hours a day and seven days a week. Clients are referred to the program by the New York City Department of Homeless Services. To learn more about the program, copy and paste this link into a browser https://www.voa-gny.org/housing Location: Wards Island, NY 10035 Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or Associate's degree with relevant experience including prior experience in counseling and housing placement services for homeless populations as well as some supervisory experience. Excellent communication skills and computer skills (Word and Excel) required. Housing Placement Coordinator Principal Responsibilities: Manage housing intake and assessment of all clients referred. Develop housing workshops and individual counseling sessions. Oversee training of clients on skills needed to acquire and maintain permanent housing. Supervise, provide training and support to Housing Specialists. Manage working sessions to review clients, compare assessments and share resources. Manage compliance with funder timelines, regulation, and incentive programs for timely housing placements. Counsel families on rent arrears, credit and criminal background checks, NYCHA & current available city subsides, supportive housing, DHS regulations and related obstacles to securing permanent housing. Accompany clients on apartment visits and landlord interviews.
