JOB DESCRIPTION Human Resource Consultant Human Resource Department FLSA Classification: Exempt Reports to: Director of Human Resources Location: San Diego, California Overview of the Position: The Human Resource Consultant primary purpose is to act as a consultant for company management on all issues related to human resources. You should be a proactive communicator and change agent, someone who can successfully balance employee needs with business objectives to create integrated solutions. Essential Job Functions: * Assess and anticipate human resources-related needs in facilities * Advises on promotions, transfers, and new hires in collaboration with department management * Identify training needs and plan if specific training is needed * Monitor training programs to ensure that training objectives are met * Provide input on workforce and succession planning as well as restructuring * Develop and nurture partnerships through human resources to bridge the divide between management and employees * Maintain awareness of the culture, plans, financial position, and competition of the business units under the HR purview * Build relationships with each business unit * Consult regularly with management and provide guidance when appropriate * Collaborate with colleagues in the human resources department to develop policies, programs, and solutions * Analyze data trends and metrics to inform business decisions * Mediate and resolve employee relations issues; conduct thorough and objective investigations when necessary * Find ways to build morale, improve workplace relationships, and boost productivity and retention * Ensure regulatory compliance with legal requirements pertinent to the day-to-day management of employees; collaborate with the legal department when necessary. * Interpret human resources policy to company management * Conduct Audits per HR compliance and follow up * Ensure Business Units are reporting Workers' Compensation Claims and identify trends and solutions Qualifications/Requirements: Education:  Bachelor’s degree in business, communications, or related field.   Language Skills: * Must be able to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical information, and to be easily understood through verbal communication in the English language.   Mathematical Skills: * Must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. * Ability to perform these operations using units of weight measurement, and volume. Communication Skills: * Excellent communication and interpersonal skills * Ability to effectively communicate with residents, families, responsible parties, staff and outside resources and agencies. * Computer literate and able to use Word, Excel, Outlook, and Internet. Specific Requirements: * Previous experience in human resources, professional development, training, or employee relations is a plus. * Current, in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to human resources and employee management, including workers’ compensation, union relations, and federal and state employment laws Environmental Conditions: Primarily inside work, normal to above-normal temperatures, some noise, occasional fumes/odors, chemical exposure and potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens. This job cannot be performed without exposure to the stresses associated with an intimate, 24 hour skilled care environment that delivers care and services primarily to disabled and cognitively impaired residents in an aging population.  Examples of these stresses include, but are not limited to: emergency health or safety response, weekend and holiday duty, unusual or impaired behavior by residents, family reactions to having a loved one in a nursing home, death and dying, oversight of state surveyors, ombudsmen and federal officials, presence of consultants and attorneys, and variable involvement of medical staff.
