ABOUT US

An enthusiastic and experienced generalist Human Resources professional is sought for the post of HR Coordinator in the Department of Space and Climate Physics (Mullard Space Science Laboratory), University College London (UCL). This is a full-time post, fixed term for two years in the first instance with extension subject to funding.
The Department is located on its own campus in the beautiful Surrey Hills, surrounded by woodland, and is the UK’s largest university space research group. Space science is a discipline that demands highly innovative technologies and the Department has an international reputation for excellence in this area. UCL was one of the first universities in the world to become involved in making scientific observations in space. Since the Department was established in 1966, it has participated in over 40 satellite missions with the European Space Agency, NASA (US), Japan, Russia, China and India, and flown over 230 rocket experiments.

Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading HR related activities within the department, managing the interactions between the department, Faculty and UCL’s central HR teams. This includes directing the staff recruitment function, managing the on boarding of staff from induction through probation to regular appraisal, and acting as the first point of contact for all HR-related staffing queries. In addition, the Senior Human Resources Officer will provide high-level support to the Director, Departmental Manager and line managers, providing advice and guidance on HR processes and policies, employee relations issues and actively supporting managers and staff to follow appropriate HR procedures.
This role is initially fixed for two years in the first instance, with a possibility of further extension.
