Job Title: Human Resources Generalist
Excluded Full-Time
Salary Range: $80,000-$90,000
This is a hybrid role based out of the BCNU Burnaby office.

SUMMARY

The Human Resources Generalist is a key member of the HR team and plays a broad, hands-on role supporting a full spectrum of human resources functions. Reporting to the HR Manager, the HR Generalist is responsible for supporting day-to-day HR operations, including recruitment, employee and labour relations, payroll coordination, HRIS administration, training, and organizational projects.

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS

An equivalent combination of education and related experience may be considered.

Education and Professional Certifications

  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • CPHR or working toward designation is an asset.

Experience and Knowledge

  • 3 to 5 years in a generalist HR role, ideally in a unionized or public sector environment.
  • Familiarity with multiple areas of HR, including recruitment, employee relations, and payroll or HRIS administration.
  • Strong working knowledge of HR processes, systems and best practices.
  • Recent, relevant experience interpreting and applying collective agreements.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in HRIS systems (Dayforce experience is an asset) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to analyze data and generate insightful reports.

Responsibilities

Recruitment & Onboarding

  • Assist the recruitment team with end-to-end recruitment including coordination and facilitation of onboarding and orientation.

Employee & Labour Relations

  • Support the administration and interpretation of collective agreements and workplace policies.
  • Provide guidance to managers and employees on workplace matters, including performance management and conflict resolution.
  • Assist with investigations, grievance handling, and disciplinary processes as needed.
  • Prepare documentation and support the HR Manager and Employee Relations Advisor in joint union management meetings.

Payroll & HRIS Administration

  • Liaise with the Assistant Manager of Payroll and Benefits to ensure accurate employee data entry of updates and changes (e.g., new hires, terminations, leaves).
  • Maintain employee records and ensure data integrity in the HRIS (Dayforce).
  • Assist in responding to employee questions related to benefits, leaves, pay, and policies.

Policy & Compliance

  • Support the implementation and maintenance of HR policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Ensure compliance with employment legislation, collective agreements, and internal policies.
  • Support privacy, confidentiality, and conflict of interest protocols.

Project & Program Support

  • Participate in or lead HR projects such as process improvements, staff engagement initiatives, and learning and development programming.
  • Collect and analyze HR data to support decision-making and reporting needs.

Perform other related duties as assigned to support the HR team and organizational priorities.
