HR Works is happy to support our client in Syracuse in their search for an HR Generalist to support the full spectrum of Human Resources operations. In this role, you’ll balance hands‑on daily HR activities with opportunities to enhance processes, strengthen compliance, and contribute to organizational growth. What You'll Do: Compliance & Regulatory Oversight Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and HR best practices. Represent the organization in unemployment, workers’ compensation, DOL, and NYS Human Rights/EEOC matters. Prepare and submit required governmental filings. Proactively identify and mitigate HR‑related risks. HR Operations & Program Administration Process payroll in Paylocity, including timekeeping, deductions, and accuracy audits. Administer 401(k) plans and support required annual audits. Manage benefits administration, including FMLA, disability, and PFL programs. Handle workers’ compensation claims and communication with insurance carriers. Oversee labor‑related and benefits‑related audits. Manage onboarding, offboarding, and personnel file maintenance. Support disciplinary actions and employee separations with proper documentation. Recruitment & Talent Acquisition Lead full‑cycle recruiting including job postings, candidate screening, interview coordination, and offer processes. Collaborate with staffing agencies as needed. Conduct new hire onboarding and orientation. Employee Relations & Support Serve as a resource for employees regarding HR policies, procedures, and benefits. Support managers with employee relations matters and ensure appropriate documentation. Foster and help maintain a positive, compliant workplace culture. Training & Performance Support Coordinate mandatory compliance training initiatives. Track performance evaluations and support the performance management process. HRIS & Data Management Maintain accurate HR data and records. Generate and analyze HR reports to support compliance and informed decision‑making. Policy, Process & Culture Development Assist in updating HR policies, handbooks, and SOPs. Recommend and support process improvements that enhance HR operations. Contribute to employee engagement initiatives and internal communications. Provide proactive and informed HR guidance to leadership. Additional Responsibilities Perform other duties as assigned. Maintain DOT/FMCSA driver qualification files (non‑essential function). What You Bring: Bachelor’s degree in HR or related field, or equivalent experience. 5+ years of HR experience preferred. Experience with Paylocity or a similar HRIS/payroll system strongly preferred. Strong knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities. Ability to manage priorities, work independently, and maintain confidentiality. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. SHRM‑CP/SCP or HRCI‑PHR/SPHR certification is a plus. To view the complete job description, click here.
