Brockton School is a nondenominational coeducational Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12, independent school, located in North Vancouver, British Columbia. JOB SUMMARY:

As a member of the Business Office team, and reporting to the Director of Finance and Human Resources, this position plays a key role in providing practical, consistent and proactive HR support and direction on a full range of HR programs and activities in support of Brockton employees. The HR manager advises employees and Leadership on HR procedures, policies, best practices, and legislations to facilities and help achieve the strategic objectives and goals of Brockton. This role will primarily focus on employee relations, recruitment, onboarding and offboarding, benefit management, occupational health and safety and policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS

  • CPHR designation (or working towards) is an asset.
  • A minimum of 5 years of HR experience ideally in a not for profit or independent school.
  • Knowledge of the BC Employment Standards Act and HR best practices.
  • Ability to work with diverse teams.
  • Exceptional communications and relationship building skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to deal with a diversity of people in a calm, courteous, and effective manner
  • Ability to take ownership to plan and prioritize tasks to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Effective problem-solving skills.
  • Strong ethics in regard to privacy, confidentiality, and protecting the interests of the organization.

    The salary range for this position is from $75,000-$95,000 per annum based on experience.

PRIMARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES

Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to

  • Manages the recruitment process from job postings, screening resumes, conducting pre-screening interviews, team interview coordination, reference checks, and the offer process.
  • Designs and manages the onboarding process for new hires including partnering with Principals/Directors to ensure smooth integration into teams.
  • Assists in the new hire orientation sessions and training on company policies and procedures.
  • Manages the offboarding of employees and coordination between departments.
  • Maintain the HRIS system to ensure information is up to date and accurate.
  • Develops, recommends, and implements Human Resource policies, programs, procedures, and practices to attract, retain, motivate, and develop employees. This includes an annual review and update to said policies, programs, procedures, and practices (as well as associated documentation).
  • Develops and maintains employee handbooks (and online shared files), updating as needed.
  • Leads the annual employee orientation process as it relates to HR specific items.
  • Maintains Brockton’s organizational chart (and reporting structures chart) and updates it as changes occur.
  • Ensures all job descriptions are kept up to date and assist in the creation of new job descriptions as required.
  • Advises Leadership on legal and compliance issues relating to employment practices.
  • Monitors labour legislation, keeping current on the latest recruitment process and implement required changes to keep the recruitment processes compliant and efficient.
  • Ensures compliance with all provincial and federal employment laws and regulations; this would include participation on behalf of HR in provincial and national evaluations, inspections, and accreditations.
  • Manages the development and operation of Brockton’s performance review process.
  • Oversees special initiatives/projects such as Happy Team, JOSH committee.
  • Monitors and ensures compliance with legislative training of employees as required and best practices as desired (e.g., Safer Schools, medical first aid, etc).
  • Works with management to develop, coordinate, and enhance training programs by identifying skills/knowledge gaps and training needs.
  • Compiles and prepares reports and/or supporting information for management to use in making decisions, reports, presentations to the board, or other.
  • At the direction of the Director of Finance and HR, supports staff with HR related questions.
  • Takes a leadership role in the occupational health and safety committee.
  • Takes a leadership role in staff recognition and celebration initiatives.
  • Represents Brockton at various association meetings/events including but not limited to the ISABC, FISA, CAIS, or other.
  • Other duties as assigned.
