HUMAN RESOURCES OFFICER

Duration: Permanent, subject to funding
Probationary Period: 6 months
Salary: £30,559 FTE, actual salary £12,389 per.annum
Contracted Hours: 15 hours/week
Based at: Connex offices, Buxton
Reporting to: Chief Executive Officer
Purpose: To provide a professional, proactive, and supportive HR service across the organisation, ensuring the effective delivery of HR operations including recruitment, employee relations, performance management, training, and compliance with employment legislation.
To work with the Senior Management team in fostering a positive and inclusive workplace culture where staff feel valued and empowered.
Duties & Responsibilities
1. Liaise with senior managers and the Management Board to ensure that the organisation has the staff resources in place to support service delivery across the organisation.
2. Seek guidance and support as needed from external HR consultants, CoLaw, to ensure legal compliance and good practice in the recruitment, management and support of Connex’s staff team.
3. Advertise and actively raise awareness of staff vacancies, using a range of media. Prepare job descriptions, advertise roles, and arrange interviews.
4. Lead the recruitment and onboarding processes for staff, ensuring ‘Right to Work’ compliance and liaising with the relevant service managers, IT and payroll support as necessary.
5. Prepare contracts, offer letters, and variation agreements.
6. Oversee Disclosure & Barring Service checks, liaising with our DBS checking service provider portal, service managers and our accounts department.
7. Review and develop HR policies that align with Connex’s values and sector-specific compliance requirements
8. Support staff training and development, fostering professional growth across all levels including coordinating training sessions, track attendance, and evaluate outcomes.
9. Manage staff benefits administration and staff records with attention to confidentiality, identifying alternative recording systems.
10. Lead initiatives to improve employee engagement, wellbeing and a positive workplace culture.
11. Advise on disciplinary, grievance, capability, and absence matters in line with policy.
12. Assist management in handling sensitive HR matters, including grievances and conflict resolution, acting as note taker where necessary.
13. Ensure staff leaving Connex are given the opportunity to share their insights and suggestions, and that these contribute to the ongoing improvement of the organisation.
14. Undertake any training deemed necessary for the post.
15. Manage HR systems and databases, supporting payroll, absence, and leave tracking.
16. Assist in audits and regulatory inspections as required.
17. You may be required at times to carry out various other duties within your capabilities.
Person Specification
· CIPD Level 3 qualification or equivalent
· Strong knowledge and experience in a HR role, including recruitment, training and employee relations.
· Understanding of Employment Law and best practices in HR
· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
· Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion.
· Strong administrative and organisational skills.
· Ability to work on own initiative aswell as part of a team.
· Experience working in a charitable, health or social care sector.
· A flexible approach with the ability to adjust to different requirements as priorities change.
· Driving licence and own transport is desirable.
