About the role


Northern Carriers is seeking a Hr Truck Driver to join our transport fleet on a full-time basis. Based in Somerton, VIC 3062, this role is essential to our operations, ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of heavy and extra heavy vehicles and freight across Victoria and beyond. As an HE Truck Driver, you will be responsible for operating heavy vehicles, managing challenging routes, and maintaining the highest standards of safety and professionalism. This position is critical to our commitment to delivering reliable logistics services to our clients.

Key responsibilities


  • Operate heavy and extra heavy vehicles safely and efficiently in accordance with all relevant legislation and company policies
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure the truck is in optimal working condition
  • Plan and execute efficient routes, managing time effectively to meet delivery schedules
  • Load, secure and unload freight safely, ensuring cargo is properly distributed and secured
  • Maintain accurate logbooks, including records of distance travelled, fuel consumption and breaks taken
  • Comply with all road rules, weight restrictions and fatigue management regulations
  • Communicate effectively with dispatchers, warehouse staff and clients regarding delivery status and any issues
  • Maintain a high standard of vehicle cleanliness and report any maintenance issues promptly
  • Contribute to a positive workplace culture and support colleagues in the transport team


What we're looking for


  • Current Heavy Rigid (HR) or Heavy Combination (HC) truck driver's licence, appropriate for the role
  • Proven experience operating heavy vehicles in commercial transport settings
  • Current National Heavy Vehicle Driving Reforms (NHVDR) training or willingness to obtain it
  • Knowledge of fatigue management laws and commitment to safe driving practices
  • Strong mechanical understanding and ability to conduct basic vehicle maintenance checks
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills
  • Professional communication abilities and a customer-focused attitude
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • A commitment to safety and a clean driving record
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including early starts and occasional weekend work as required
