Position Summary
The Workplace Conflict Resolution Specialist reports to the Director, Labour Relations and is responsible for providing workplace restoration and conflict resolution services, assisting in navigating workplace conflicts between employees, co-workers and managers, and conducting thorough investigations into bullying and harassment complaints. This role is crucial in promoting a positive and inclusive work environment and ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations.

Job Title: Workplace Conflict Resolution Specialist
Department: Human Resources – Labour Relations
Position Type: Permanent, Full-Time, 1.0 FTE
Hours: 80 Hours Bi-Weekly
Salary Range: $85,000.00 – $95,000.00 annually
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 4:30pm. A combination of work from home and in-office with flexible working arrangements.
Start Date: March 3, 2025, or as soon as possible.
A clear British Columbia Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check for working with vulnerable adults and/or children is a condition of employment with RainCity Housing. Applicants must be willing and able to receive a clearance under the Criminal Record Review Act.

Required Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, psychology, or a related field.
- Certification in investigations, mediation, or conflict resolution.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in employee relations, conflict resolution, or a related field.
- A thorough understanding of labour laws and regulations is necessary.
- Previous experience evaluating evidence and maintaining a questioning mindset to ensure the integrity of the investigation.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
- Must possess keen observation skills to notice subtle details that others might overlook, along with the ability to gather evidence and understand the nuances of workplace dynamics.
- Proficiency in using computers: Microsoft 365, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and various video conferencing platforms.
Preferred Qualifications
- MBA or master’s degree in human resources, psychology, or a related field.
- Experience working with the following collective agreements – BCNU, HEU or BCGEU.
- Experience working in a non-profit organization.
- Experience working with organizations that support marginalized people and communities.

Key Responsibilities
The Workplace Conflict Resolution Specialist is responsible for the following key functions.
Investigations, Mediation & Resolution
- Oversee the investigation, mediation and resolution of all employee grievances and complaints.
- Investigate and resolve employee complaints and concerns, including those related to discrimination, harassment, and retaliation.
- Identify and analyze areas of conflict within RainCity or between individuals.
- Design and implement conflict resolution processes and strategies.
- Facilitate open and effective communication between parties in conflict.
- Mediate negotiations and discussions to resolve disputes,
- Conduct investigations into complaints of unfair treatment or violations of company policy.
- Facilitate informal resolution of workplace conflicts, helping all parties to explore options and engage in a voluntary and confidential process.
- Act as a neutral third-party to facilitate and help conflicting parties discuss issues and negotiate an agreement.
- Identify problems, develop plans to address them, and implement those plans effectively.
- Ensure compliance with labour laws and regulations, including WorkSafeBC, BC Employment Standards, Personal Information and Privacy Act, and BC Human Rights Code.
Collective Agreement Interpretation & Training
- Support and/or train Labour Relations Specialists on grievance management, mediation and investigations as required.
- Provide guidance and support to HR Centers of Excellence (COEs), operations leadership, and HR Business Partners (HRBPs) on labour relations matters.
- Collaborate with HR and other departments to ensure consistency and alignment of employee and labour relations policies and practices.
- Develop and conduct training programs for employees and management on labour relations and conflict resolution topics.
Other duties as assigned/required.

- The ability to break down complex situations into smaller, manageable parts, analyze each piece, and make decisions based on the analysis. This skill is crucial for understanding the root causes of conflicts and identifying patterns.
- The ability to think logically and objectively, removing personal biases and opinions to reach sound conclusions based on evidence.
- The ability to interact effectively and harmoniously with others. This includes building trust, showing empathy, and maintaining neutrality during investigations.
- A natural ability to assess situations and people quickly, often referred to as a “sixth sense.” This helps in making initial judgments and guiding the investigation process.
- Resolving conflict with internal and external parties with tact and diplomacy.
- Dealing with large amounts of data and sensitive information.
