Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE:

We are seeking a proactive and safety-driven HSE Coordinator to support the successful execution of the Site Wide Services project at Highland Valley Copper. This multi-year industrial construction project is expected to continue through the end of 2027. As a HSE Coordinator, you will play a critical role in supporting daily site activities, promoting a strong safety culture, and ensuring compliance with all health and safety procedures, standards, and regulations.
You will work closely with safety team, site supervisors, trades, operators, and labour teams to identify hazards, conduct inspections, facilitate orientations and toolbox talks, and support incident prevention and response activities. This is a boots-on-the-ground position ideal for someone with strong communication skills, a hands-on approach to field safety, and the ability to foster teamwork in a dynamic construction environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead by example as the on-site HSE Representative, actively monitoring and supporting safe operations to prevent incidents and ensure all tools, equipment, and facilities are properly used, inspected, and maintained.
  • Foster a strong, positive safety culture through daily engagement with teams—building trust, encouraging safe behaviors, and empowering workers to take ownership of safety.
  • Proactively identify and address potential hazards, supporting teams in applying consistent, effective safety practices across all work activities.
  • Ensure all work is carried out in alignment with project agreements, safety standards, and contractual commitments.
  • Support the successful execution of the Project HSE Plan and/or Contractor-Specific HSE Plan by guiding teams and ensuring clear understanding of expectations.
  • Translate site-specific scopes of work into clear, practical Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) and Safe Job Procedures (SJPs) that help workers succeed safely.
  • Maintain a regular and visible presence on site whenever work is being performed, ensuring support is available for workers, subcontractors, and supervisors.
  • Collaborate with other contractors to align schedules and activities in a way that reduces risks and promotes a shared commitment to safety.
  • Facilitate effective safety communications through daily toolbox talks, weekly safety meetings, orientations, and ongoing field conversations.
  • Ensure HSE is top-of-mind by including it as a standing agenda item in all project team and site meetings.
  • Deliver and track comprehensive training programs, ensuring every team member is prepared and confident in their safety responsibilities.
  • Promote proper PPE usage by equipping personnel with the right gear and providing training on its selection, use, and care.
  • Provide engaging, informative site-specific orientations that set a positive tone for new team members and reinforce the company’s safety-first mindset.
  • Conduct proactive HSE assessments and observations focused on continuous improvement and meeting leading indicator targets.
  • Take the lead in incident response and investigation, focusing on learning, transparency, and meaningful corrective actions.
  • Manage all safety-related incidents, injuries, and illnesses in accordance with the project’s incident reporting and investigation procedures as outlined in the Project HSE Plan.
  • Share progress and insights through well-documented weekly reports to the Owner, highlighting successes, opportunities, and forward-looking safety actions.
  • Encourage environmental responsibility by supporting initiatives related to erosion control, spill preparedness, and waste reduction.
  • Support site coordination activities such as traffic control, laydown organization, fueling, and equipment checks—ensuring each task is approached with safety in mind.
  • Contribute to emergency response readiness through planning, drills, and confident on-the-ground leadership when required.
  • Take initiative in identifying ways to improve safety systems, workflows, and communication—playing an active role in strengthening both safety and project success.
  • Other responsibilities to support the success of the Site Wide Services Project.
