Smithco Limited, a successful Construction Management firm specializing in Civil Infrastructure with clients spanning across Canada is looking for a Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Field Advisor based in Saskatchewan to support them in local construction projects that will add up to full-time hours, and possible overtime. The ideal candidate will have experience as a HSE Field Advisor and the ability to support the Construction Management Team with a sense of urgency, accuracy, and detail.

Essential responsibilities include:

  • Support management in the overall implementation of an effective HS&E Program and working with the Construction Management Team in the prevention of occupational injury and illness, in accordance with all Health, Safety and Environmental policies and procedures.
  • Conducting and/or participating in detailed, fact-based incident management and reporting.
  • Review and facilitate incident investigations, advise on the development of corrective actions, share lessons learned to prevent re occurrence and follow-up reporting.
  • Advise, support and coach field teams in meeting regulatory and company HSE requirements.
  • Conduct field audits and worksite inspections to support best practice and compliance objectives in the field, yard, and office.
  • Provide reports to Project Managers on safety performance, incidents, investigations, compliance, and quality.
  • Identify trends and develop work practices to reduce and eliminate occurrences.
  • Develop, conduct, and report on HSE compliance inspections, gap analysis, and audits.
  • Provide technical support, hazard analysis and contingency planning where HSE input is necessary.
  • Adopt a clear understanding of the client’s safety programs, company codes of business conduct, procedures and management systems. Perform general administrative and record keeping functions.
  • Effectively communicate (written and verbal) with all levels of project management, client representatives, and subcontractors in a professional manner. Necessary qualifications and assets include:
  • Completion of, or currently working towards, a professional safety designation (eg. Certificate or Diploma in OH&S, N-CSO, CSO, HSA).
  • 0 - 3 years of HSE field experience, preferred.
  • Possesses HSE technical knowledge.
  • Outgoing, eager to learn, strong work ethic with the ambition to grow.
  • Practices active listening skills and is a direct and clear communicator.
  • Ability to commit to regular overtime, required.
  • Must reside in Saskatchewan, or willing to relocate.
