Description
Nailor Industries, a leading manufacturer of commercial HVAC duct and air distribution products, is seeking a highly capable HSE Specialist to support Environmental, Health, and Safety performance at our Houston manufacturing facilities.   This role serves as the primary on-site safety professional and technical HSE leader, responsible for leading safety and environmental programs, ensuring regulatory compliance, and strengthening a proactive safety culture across the facility.   The HSE Specialist partners closely with plant leadership, supervisors, and production teams to identify risk, implement preventative systems, and drive continuous improvement in workplace safety and environmental performance.   This position represents a key leadership role within the plant’s operational structure and serves as a development pathway toward future HSE Manager responsibilities.     Key Responsibilities   HSE Program Leadership * Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of health, safety, and environmental programs across the facility * Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations * Support plant leadership in integrating safety expectations into daily manufacturing operations and decision making   Risk Management & Hazard Prevention * Conduct routine safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments throughout production areas * Identify hazards associated with metal fabrication, cutting, forming, welding, grinding, and material handling operations * Implement engineering and administrative controls to mitigate operational risks   Safety Systems & Compliance * Maintain and oversee critical safety programs including: * Lockout / Tagout * Machine guarding * Powered industrial truck safety * Hazard communication * Confined space procedures * PPE compliance * Maintain required OSHA logs, incident records, and regulatory documentation   Incident Investigation & Root Cause Analysis * Lead investigations of workplace incidents, injuries, and near misses * Apply structured root cause analysis methodologies to identify systemic risks * Implement corrective and preventative actions and monitor long-term effectiveness   Environmental Stewardship * Support environmental compliance programs including: * Waste management * Chemical handling and storage * Environmental reporting requirements * Ensure environmental practices align with EPA and state regulatory standards   Training & Workforce Engagement * Develop and deliver safety training programs for employees and supervisors, including: * New hire orientation * Equipment and machine safety * Lockout/Tagout procedures * Emergency response protocols * Provide coaching to supervisors to strengthen safety leadership and accountability   Data, Metrics & Continuous Improvement * Monitor and analyze key HSE performance metrics, including: * Incident and injury rates * Near misses * Hazard observations * Corrective action completion * Use data to identify trends and drive continuous improvement initiatives   Leadership Collaboration * Serve as a trusted safety advisor to plant leadership and supervisors * Participating in plant safety committees and operational reviews * Collaborate with operations, engineering, maintenance, and HR to implement risk reduction and safety improvements     Qualifications   * Bachelor’s degree preferred in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, or related field * 3 -5 years of progressive experience in Environmental Health & Safety within a manufacturing or industrial environment * Experience supporting metal fabrication, industrial manufacturing, or heavy production environments preferred * Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, industrial hazard controls, and environmental compliance standards * Demonstrated ability to lead incident investigations, safety audits, and training programs * Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to influence both frontline employees and leadership     Preferred Certifications   * Certified Safety Professional (CSP) * Associate Safety Professional (ASP) * OSHA 30 Certification * First Aid / CPR Certification * English / Spanish / Vietnamese preferred     Working Environment   This role requires regular presence on the production floor within an active manufacturing environment including: * Sheet metal fabrication and forming equipment * Cutting, welding, and grinding operations * Forklift and material handling traffic * Elevated noise levels and temperature variations The role requires walking, standing, climbing ladders, and wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).
