POSITION SUMMARY
The Entry-Level Safety Technician (HSE Technician I) is responsible for supporting the implementation and monitoring of HART’s Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies and procedures at the project level. This position is ideal for a motivated individual transitioning from a skilled trade or with limited HSE experience, who demonstrates effective communication skills, situational awareness, and a desire to grow into a safety leadership role. The Safety Technician will be mentored by senior safety professionals and progressively exposed to more complex safety responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
Field Safety Support
Maintain consistent field presence to monitor site conditions, housekeeping, and worker behaviors.
Participate in daily safety huddles and conduct walk-throughs with the Safety Manager or Superintendent.
Reinforce PPE compliance, safe access/egress, and other basic safety expectations.
Support jobsite audits, scaffold checks, ladder inspections, and other routine inspections.
Engage professionally with craft workers, subcontractors, and foremen.
Hazard Recognition & Documentation
Assist in conducting Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), and Pre-Task Plans.
Observe, report, and help mitigate unsafe conditions and behaviors.
Learn to operate and calibrate air monitoring instruments (e.g., 4-gas monitors).
Begin documentation of field observations, near-miss reports, and inspection logs.
Training & Program Compliance
Attend and contribute to toolbox talks, orientations, and safety meetings.
Track and help verify training compliance, permit status, and SDS availability.
Participate in LMS (Learning Management System) training modules and site-specific programs.
Learn to support confined space documentation, hot work permits, and fall protection inspections.
Administrative Support
Assist with basic data entry related to inspections, attendance, training records, and permits.
Begin to understand recordkeeping requirements for OSHA 300 logs and client-specific audits.
Help organize and maintain SDS binders, permits, and compliance folders.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or GED required, technical or safety coursework a plus.
1–2 years of construction or trade experience preferred (e.g., carpentry, electrical, labor).
Basic knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1926 construction standards.
Willingness to pursue OSHA 30, CPR/First Aid, and other safety-related certifications.
Proficient in verbal communication; comfortable interacting with workers and leadership.
Familiarity with mobile apps or tablets for reporting/documentation (training provided).
