Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Strategic Leadership & Oversight
  • Lead the North American HSEQ function across Wind, Solar, Storage, and Demand Response operations in the assigned region.
  • Manage and mentor O&M HSEQ Regional Managers and staff and ensure effective support across all assigned plants.
  • Align North American HSEQ strategy with national and global corporate goals and initiatives.
  • Promote and maintain the company’s HSEQ values through strong leadership and presence in the field.
  • Program Development & Compliance
  • Develop, maintain, and implement HSEQ programs and compliance plans aligned with ISO 14001, ISO 37001, ISO 45001, ISO 9001, and local regulations.
  • Define, implement, and continuously improve Emergency Plans at plant/area/site levels. Ensure execution of safety and environmental risk assessments and compliance with relevant legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Training & Cultural Development
  • Support and implement training programs to enhance employee awareness and compliance with HSEQ standards.
  • Oversee selection, use, and training of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Foster a proactive and participative safety culture through coaching, education, and leadership presence.
  • Incident Management & Auditing
  • Lead investigations into incidents and near misses, ensure timely reporting, root cause analysis, and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Conduct and oversee field inspections, safety observations, and compliance audits.
  • Maintain consistency in data collection and reporting across the region through company systems (e.g., SAP).
  • Supplier & Contractor Oversight
  • Ensure HSEQ compliance among contractors and vendors in line with company standards and Integrated Management Systems.
  • Verify implementation of safety protocols during field activities and contractor operations.
  • Data, Reporting & Administration
  • Coordinate regulatory and internal HSEQ reporting and ensure timely, accurate submissions.
  • Maintain data integrity in HSEQ systems and support reporting for budgeting, labor, and resource allocation.
  • Act as a buyer for HSEQ-related procurement needs in coordination with the procurement team.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration
  • Work collaboratively with Operations teams to develop site-specific safety programs and conduct hazard analyses.
  • Participate in cross-departmental projects, special initiatives, and companywide improvement campaigns.
  • Maintain strong relationships with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies.
  • Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Environmental Sciences, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years of experience in HSEQ roles within power generation or industrial operations; at least 2 years in a leadership capacity.
  • Demonstrated expertise with ISO-based management systems, auditing, and regulatory compliance.
  • Experience with SAP or similar systems for HSEQ reporting (preferred).
  • Proven ability to influence across levels, work independently, and lead multidisciplinary teams.
