Employment Opportunity: Human Resource Advisor
Location: Halifax, NS
Salary Range: $55,000.00 per year
Employment Term: Contract March 2025 – March 31, 2026 (possibility of renewal), Full time hours (35 hours/ week)

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre is centrally located in the Urban Indigenous Community of Halifax. We are looking for One (1) Human Resources Advisor who is responsible for working under the direction of the HR Manager to collaboratively work with various program Managers, Coordinators to ensure best practices in administration, training and people management are adopted throughout the Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre. The HR Advisor will assist in all areas of human resources and work towards building capacity as growth continues. This position requires a high degree of confidentiality and organization an understanding of Indigenous world views, practices, cultural knowledge and ways of working in community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and maintain employee records in a Human Resources Information System, and support assist with data entry and ensure accuracy of employee information.
- Tracking employee time off requests in the HRIS to insure employee compliance
- Help review the MNFC Personal Policies, recommends revisions and provides support to the Executive Director in policy revisions/ development.
- Assists the HR Manager in ensuring the Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre is in compliance with all federal and provincial employment standards codes
- Supports with hiring needs & full cycle recruitment and onboarding
- Maintains consistent job descriptions, salary guidelines/ pay grid and employment contracts are utilized
- Assist management in identifying organizational strengths and identifying human resource capacity.
- As part of the HR Team provides advice and direction to management on employee performance management and progressive disciplinary procedures as needed
- Assist the implementing performance management, skill evaluation and to ensure performance reviews are documented and filed
- Assist management with conflict resolution, feedback, templates for incident investigation and written warnings
- Assists in developing strategies to ensure organizational mission, vision and goals are realized. Participates in management discussions and round table decision making and problem-solving issues
- Creates administrative tools to help aid in implementation of HR best practices
- Assists managers in training and certification requests for documents (Vulnerable Sector Check/ Child Abuse Registrar)
- Manages employee HR filing system, keeps files up to date and manages archived system
- Must use a high degree of confidentiality
- Works in tandem with organizational partners (CPHRNS), regarding employment insurance and the federal & provincial labour departments.
- Assists Management in organizing employee training events
- Keep up to date with latest HR trends and best practices
- May take training as it pertains to the HR Advisor position
- Adheres to the MNFC Policy & Procedures
- May perform other related duties as assigned
