QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • 4 year University Bachelor’s Degree with completion of courses in Human Resources

Experience:

  • 3 years progressive experience in human resources administration in healthcare, education or public sectors
  • Experience supporting human resources functions in a unionized environment

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Familiarity with Human Resources principles and practices
  • Knowledge of Western collective agreements and policies impacting faculty preferred
  • Ability to understand, interpret, and effectively communicate University guidelines, policies and practices to key stakeholders
  • Communication skills to clearly and effectively interact with all levels of the organization
  • Verbal and written communication skills to translate information into easily understood terms, summarize information, and provide a rationale for action
  • Ability to work in a manner that models best practices in confidentiality standards
  • Ability to apply critical thinking to evaluate information and make appropriate decisions or recommendations
  • Customer service skills with a desire to achieve results in a professional and timely manner

Responsibilities

The Human Resources Assistant will be responsible for carrying out a range of human resources activities related to selection and search committees for Department Chairs, Chair/Chiefs, Endowed Research Chairs, Canada Research Chairs (CRCs), and Decanal Appointments. The role will act as a resource and provide support, information and guidance to the Dean, Chairs, Co-Chairs, Departmental Managers of Administration and Finance, Search Committee Members, applicants, external reviewers and other related stakeholders regarding search and selection committee policies and procedures. The Human Resources Assistant will maintain a thorough knowledge of regulations, the UWOFA collective agreement, CRC government regulations, Senate policies, the Joint Chair/Chief Agreement, and terms of reference documents for each of the Endowed Chairs.
