Reporting to the Head of People and Culture for CLRe and the Head of Reinsurance, Barbados, the successful candidate will support the Head of People and Culture across a variety of HR activities including recruitment and selection, on and off boarding, talent management, performance management, employee relations, reporting, HR projects and much more. The individual will be resourceful, pragmatic and flexible. They will demonstrate a high degree of integrity, diplomacy, discretion and professionalism when dealing with HR matters. They will proactively challenge the status quo to drive efficiencies and streamline HR processes. The role will require excellent attention to detail and a willingness to learn professionally and personally. The Role The Human Resources Specialist will be responsible for: Recruitment and Selection Providing generalist HR support to help drive recruitment of key talent. Compiling job specifications, reviewing applications and liaising with recruiters or hiring managers to coordinate interviews. Sharing feedback on candidates in a timely manner, preparing contracts and conducting references. Organizing the onboarding process ensuring seamless induction and integration for new employees. Supporting global mobility moves including work permit applications through effective engagement with internal partners and external stakeholders. Employee Relations Providing advice on employee relations matters to help manage HR queries in line with local legislation and best practice. Supporting the local leadership team to manage employee relations issues including coordination of meetings, preparation of minutes, correspondence and follow-up. Performance Management Assisting management with performance evaluations and supporting goal-setting and employee development programs, ensuring a consistent approach across the team. Providing guidance to employees and managers in the performance management process. Monitoring performance and probation review completion metrics on an on-going basis. HR Policies and Compliance Providing guidance to employees and managers in the application of HR policies and practices. Proactively reviewing and making updates to HR policies and procedures in response to legislative or organisational changes and regular review cycles. Ensuring familiarity with employee requirements in all aspects of the employee lifecycle. Learning and Development Supporting the coordination of learning and development initiatives by scheduling training sessions, booking diaries, coordinating attendance lists and gathering feedback. Supporting the delivery of formal study programs (e.g. accounting, actuarial). Working with the Head of People and Culture to coordinate and implement HR initiatives. Annual HR Processe Supporting all regular processes to ensure the delivery of an efficient and effective HR service including yearend pay review, bonus programs, promotions and succession planning. Compiling role profiles and ensuring they are reviewed and updated on a regular basis. Facilitating the development of compensation benchmarking for the local area. Payroll and Benefits Administration Preparing the monthly payroll memo ensuring all changes are captured and processed accurately. Liaising with external payroll provider as needed. Coordinating and overseeing employee benefits including health insurance and life cover. Managing any additional benefits as required including annual leave balances. Supporting the effective operation of the employee pension plan, working with the plan provider, audit firms and regulators as required. Maintaining confidentiality of sensitive employee data at all times. HR Projects Working with the Head of People and Culture to enhance employee engagement, wellness and diversity and inclusion initiatives. Supporting the HR team on current and future HR projects including the employee engagement survey. HR Reporting Gathering and monitoring data across all facets of HR including absence, headcount, attrition and recruitment. Miscellaneous Building and maintaining effective working relationships with the business to identify and address issues. Preparing HR-related documentation such as reports, letters, contracts, invoices and employee communications. Ensuring all HR documentation and files are compliant with legal and regulatory standards. Acting as a trusted HR professional ensuring a positive, proactive HR service is delivered. Overseeing any other ad-hoc tasks and contribute to special projects as required. Staying abreast of HR trends, best practices and employment law trends. Supporting and providing back up to the administrative and sustainability team as required. The Candidate The Human Resources Specialist will possess: An Undergraduate Degree in Human Resources or related field, with a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a related discipline. Previous work experience in professional services or financial industries would be an asset. Sound understanding of Human Resources and employment law practices and procedures. Excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to coordinate core HR matters effectively. High level of discretion and diplomacy. Accountability - takes proactive ownership of tasks to ensure follow up and completion. Strong attention to detail. Strong interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence Professional integrity, strong work ethic and a desire to continue learning. Excellent communication skills (written, verbal and presentation) Dependability, reliability and professionalism. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
