SUMMARY:

Supports the Absence Management business objectives in handling complex claims. Negotiates, facilitates and monitors successful return to work of employees within appropriate disability guidelines, in a safe and timely manner. Determines specific physical tolerances and vocational skills required for particular employment positions; assists leaders with employee competence decisions for individual positions; contacts leaders to gather specific job site/employment information and prepares related reports documenting results; assists with job site modification and/or obtains necessary adaptive equipment; ensures medical, legal and accreditation standards are maintained.

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • At least 5 years of related experience managing occupational and/or non-occupational injuries required
  • Experience working with employees on accommodations related to pregnancy, disability and other related requests preferred

EDUCATION

  • Four-year Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required
  • Graduate or professional work or advanced degree; or equivalent experience preferred

Responsibilities
  • Facilitates early intervention and timely return to work (RTW) for employees for occupational events.
  • Manages daily incidents as reported thru Safelink and First Report of Injury. Participates in the Daily Safety briefing (DSB) updating the organization on occurrences and DART information.
  • Oversees claims management by our TPA and Medical Management vendor to ensure timely and accurate responses in management of claims.
  • Obtains work status reports from Approved Medical Providers, Third Party Administrators and/or Occupational Health following each visit
  • Provides guidance on benefit plan requirements and definitions to leaders, employees, and vendor.
  • Attends bi-weekly and as needed claims discussions and escalates complex questions/concerns to Absence Management Manager and/or Director.
  • Communicates with employee and leader on claim progress and return to work estimates. Identifies modified duty assignments within the employee’s department or outside if needed.
  • Provide written documentation for each employee interaction during the return to work process
  • Responsible for time keeping and payments (ATP review) of all injured employees off work or during modified duty.
  • Responsible for maintaining payments and expenditures related to Safe@Work including reserves, invoices, and funding of cash account for TPA.
  • Responsible for activities associated with OSHA reporting and tracking that occur weekly, monthly, and yearly.
  • Collaborates with Safety and Occupational Health to verify accuracy of OSHA incidents and ensure appropriate reporting on the OSHA log.
  • Provide back-up support disability and Accommodations responsibilities when needed
  • Detail orientation with ability to analyze, problem solve, organize and manage multiple priorities and excellent follow up skills in a fast paced environment
  • Utilizes effective problem-solving skills around common issues that may arise in returning an employee back to work
  • May conduct educational sessions on Safe@Work with Team Leads/Managers/Directors
  • Offers ideas and suggestions for continuous RTW process improvement
