About us

Tata Steel Minerals Canada Limited (TSMC) with its headquarters in Montreal, operates iron ore mines in the provinces of Newfoundland and Labrador and Quebec. The opportunity

TSMC is currently seeking an HR Advisor (Mine Site) to work on a Fly-in/Fly-out basis of 2 weeks On/Off rotation to and from the Menihek region in Labrador, near the town of Schefferville, QC. Operations at our mine site are running 24/7 all year long. Standard work schedules are 12 hours per day.

Flights to our site from a pick-up point airport, and accommodations and meals while at site are all company-provided. The main pick-up points are St. John’s, Gander, Deer Lake in NL, Halifax, NS, Moncton, NB, Sept-iles, Quebec city and Montreal in QC.

Reporting to the Corporate HR Manager, the position incumbent is responsible for providing comprehensive human resources support to site management and to employees in areas that leaders require to be successful in their responsibilities in keeping employees safe, productive and happy.

Major Responsibilities

  • Coordinating key onboarding, orientation and training activities between all site stakeholders and new hires.
  • Facilitate employee development and leadership training sessions, including planning and executing training projects and initiatives.
  • Support on site local recruitment.
  • Provide primary employee relations support to managers/leaders.
  • Following up with site nurses on employees on medical leave to improve the return to work process.
  • Work with site supervisors on attendance and absenteeism to support bi-weekly payroll processing.
  • Act as the first line of response to site employees’ questions and queries related to policies, programs and benefits and re-direct them towards the appropriate department when required.
  • Manage site labour relations by addressing complaints, demands, employee investigations, disciplinary measures, performance management, and separation processes when required.
  • Provide assistance in undertaking site succession planning activities to support the retention/redeployment of key employees.
  • Support the training group (technical, H&S, leadership…) and the training logistics on site
  • Carry out various administrative duties following internal procedures in accordance with established processes as assigned by Human Resources, Health & Safety and Administration management.
  • Undertake any other duties, responsibilities and projects as assigned to ensure a seamless and positive employee experience.
  • Support and coordinate the recruitment activities for different processes of talent acquisition driven by the Corporate HR team.
