Description:
The Human Resources and Safety Specialist will implement HR and Safety strategies that are compliant with federal and state laws and align with DTSV goals. The generalist will be responsible for HR administration, employee relations, safety compliance, safety training and development, incident management, safety compliance, wellness, and employee engagement.

Essential duties and responsibilities for the position include the following:

  • Assist in resume review, scheduling interviews, and clearing candidates’ access for site interviews.
  • Assist with government badge renewal and appointment scheduling process.
  • Assist with tracking employee completion of new hire and annual government required training.
  • Plan and conduct new employee orientation.
  • Support new employee benefit enrollment and annual open enrollment requirements.
  • Assist with employee relations and investigations, policy administration, and keeping current with applicable employment and safety laws.
  • Maintain Human Resource and Safety Information System records.
  • Provide training to new and returning employees on the Employee Handbook, Sexual Harassment, Safety, and all safety-related topics.
  • Advise management on the appropriate resolution of employee relation issues.
  • Support production managers in administrating progressive discipline and other HR policies.
  • Assist with ADA and FMLA requests and processing forms for Corporate HR review and determination.
  • Responsible for identifying hazardous workplace conditions.
  • Ensures training of employees on safety, company policies and procedures, and regulations about employee safety are being conducted.
  • Work with Supervisors to ensure all employees are aware of the dangers and hazards of the job and are well-trained on how to work safely.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal and state health and safety regulations and maintain and prepare necessary records according to established guidelines.
  • Participate in Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) inspections and provide inspectors with appropriate documents and identification of safety measures.
  • Ensure strong open communication channels exist between line personnel and management.
  • Respond to inquiries regarding policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • U.S. citizenship
  • High school diploma or equivalent, Associate or higher degree preferred
  • Top-Secret clearance is preferred, but not required
  • Three years’ experience in HR and/or Safety Specialist experience
  • Experience researching, developing, and implementing safety policies and procedures
  • Familiarity with Federal, State, and Local regulations pertaining to employment, OSHA, workers’ compensation, Americans with Disabilities Act, Family Medical Leave Act, Fair Labor Standards Act
  • Highly autonomous; able to work on their own without guidance
  • Adept problem-solver; able to identify issues and resolve promptly
  • Extremely attentive to detail, accurate and thorough, and capable of monitoring work independently for quality
  • Strong interpersonal skills; able to communicate clearly and with a keen sense of discretion and confidentiality
  • Ability to successfully complete corporate background investigation to include credit, criminal, and DMV checks
  • Ability to obtain/maintain government background position/security clearance

ADDITIONAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Proficiency with computers, including MS Office Suite skills.
  • Ability to communicate and express/exchange ideas clearly in the English language, both written and verbal.
  • Strong commitment to always performing and producing at the highest level of quality.
  • Positive attitude focused on customer satisfaction.
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently both independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to readily adapt to changing requirements.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position is performed onsite at a Federal Government warehouse / mail processing facility where both safety and security protocols are paramount.
