JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the Human Resource Generalist, you will be tasked with the day-to-day support of Recruitment, Training, Health and Safety, Benefits and Payroll, and other HR related tasks. The Human Resources Co-op will be tasked with a wide range of duties to support the HR department goals and objectives, with the focus on supporting recruitment initiatives.

KEY EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Currently enrolled in a post-secondary diploma or degree in Human Resources Management.
  • Basic knowledge of Employment Standards Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, and other employment/labour laws.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and integrity of HR related matters.
  • Proficient computer skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Docs and Sheets.
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with a variety of people and personalities with tactfulness and professionalism.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong mathematical skills.
  • Demonstrates initiative and commitment to learning.

Responsibilities

HUMAN RESOURCES CO-OP RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Aid in the entire recruitment process, including refining job descriptions, posting roles, evaluating resumes, participating in and arranging interviews.
  • Generate profiles for new hires within the HRIS system.
  • Update company databases with new employee details, encompassing personal information, compensation, hours, policies, and schedules.
  • Strengthen and implement the company’s onboarding and departmental training procedures.
  • Establish a centralized resource hub for managers and staff, encompassing guidance on recruitment, onboarding, training, conflict resolution, and related subjects.
  • Perform administrative tasks for the HR department, such as document filing, minutes recording, data transfer to Dayforce, and document scanning.
  • Assist in the implementation of Human Resources policies and programs as required.
  • Conduct audits of employee files and manage document filing.
  • Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and training materials for various HR systems and websites.
  • Construct a framework on Google Sheets for self-assessments by managers and employees.
  • Collaborate with HR on projects related to performance management and evaluations.
  • Participate in employee engagement initiatives and satisfaction programs, contributing to brainstorming, planning, and executing events.
  • Produce and circulate HR documents, including pay stubs, memos, surveys, corrective notices, and expectation letters, while collecting employee feedback.
  • Assist with payroll tasks, such as verifying timesheets and processing vacation requests.
  • Monitor sick leave cases, ensuring compliance with Public Health guidelines for return-to-work practices, and update relevant parties accordingly.
  • Prepare and organize expense reports for employee reimbursement.
  • Facilitate requests for office supplies and miscellaneous items across departments.
  • Support ad hoc market research on industry benchmarks, like pay ranges and severance pay calculations.
  • Assist with JHSC (Joint Health and Safety Committee) inspections.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
