Salary Grade 13: $61,250 - $72,020, commensurate with experience

The Department of Western Technology Services (WTS) is a central source committed to providing high-quality, cost-effective technology solutions and services to the campus community in support of the teaching and research missions of the University. WTS works collaboratively with other IT groups within Western’s faculties and support units to leverage central supported technology solutions and services where appropriate.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • Undergraduate Degree with completion of professional courses in human resources
  • Completion of, or working towards, Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL) designation
  • Certificate or training in Conflict Resolution/Mediation preferred

Experience:

  • Progressive experience of at least 3 years in human resources administration
  • Experience supporting the human resource function in a unionized environment
  • Experience supporting human resources in an academic or public sector setting is preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Human Resources principles and practices, the Employment Standards Act, and other relevant legislation
  • Knowledge of Western collective agreements and employment policies preferred
  • Verbal communication skills to translate information into easily understood terms, summarize information, and provide a rationale for action
  • Communication skills to write clearly, and adapt communication style and content for intended audiences in a professional manner
  • Ability to work in a manner that models best practices in confidentiality standards
  • Ability to apply critical thinking to evaluate information and make appropriate decisions or recommendations
  • Customer service skills with a desire to achieve results in a professional and timely manner
  • Detail-oriented with an ability to function and process information with high levels of accuracy
  • Discretion, tact and maturity to deal with highly confidential subjects or issues

Responsibilities

The Human Resources Coordinator will carry out a broad range of staff-related functions within the human resources practice. The role will facilitate the implementation of human resources practices, policies and programs, building strong relationships with leaders and staff within Western Technology Services. The Human Resources Coordinator will facilitate, provide support, and act as a resource for staff recruitment processes, and will manage staff appointments, payroll processes, training and development, workplace culture events, and documentation and related reporting. The role will act as a resource and provide guidance and support on human resources related issues in compliance with Western policies, procedures, collective agreements and government legislation. The role is a first point of contact and is accountable for resolving issues and responding to inquiries as required.
