Position Overview The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for managing a broad range of HR functions, including employee relations, compensation and benefits administration, policy development, and compliance. This role serves as the primary HR resource for the organization and ensures adherence to employment, benefits, and workers’ compensation laws. The position reports to the Director of Operations and supports a fast‑paced, mission‑driven nonprofit organization experiencing growth. Key Responsibilities HR Operations & Compliance Develop, interpret, implement, and maintain HR policies and procedures Review and update the Employee Handbook annually to ensure accuracy and compliance Maintain complete, accurate, and compliant personnel files, including job descriptions Partner with legal counsel to ensure compliance with EEO, AA, FMLA, ADA, and other regulations Manage workers’ compensation, disability, and related employee matters Employee Relations & Development Serve as a trusted resource for employee relations, performance management, and workplace concerns Design, implement, and maintain employee evaluation and performance review programs Provide training and guidance to supervisors and staff on HR policies and employment regulations Recruiting, Onboarding & Culture Support recruiting and hiring decisions aligned with organizational values and mission Design and deliver new‑hire orientation and onboarding programs Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion through recruitment, development, and retention practices Communicate key HR updates and initiatives to staff on a regular basis Compensation & Benefits Evaluate benefit offerings annually to ensure competitive and cost‑effective programs Support administration of compensation, benefits, and leave programs Qualifications Required Proven experience in Human Resources, including employee relations, onboarding, and HR administration Experience working independently in a standalone or highly autonomous HR role Strong organizational skills with the ability to plan, prioritize, and manage multiple responsibilities High ethical standards and strict confidentiality Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem‑solving skills Strong attention to detail and accuracy Proficiency with basic computer applications (email, word processing, spreadsheets) Ability to perform computer‑based work for extended periods Preferred Strong data entry skills Experience in a nonprofit or fast‑growing organization Work Environment Onsite office setting in Turners Falls, MA Fast‑paced, mission‑driven nonprofit organization Opportunity to make an immediate and meaningful impact If you’d like, I can also: Tighten this further for LinkedIn or Indeed Create a short outreach message for passive candidates Adjust tone to feel more corporate or mission‑driven Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Turners Falls, MA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $30.25 - $34.25/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
