Description Job Overview: The human resources generalist position is responsible for the following: Performing routine HR functions such as onboarding, benefits administration, file maintenance, and responding to and addressing employee matters Assisting in DOT compliance functions including drug screens Working with other HR staff The candidate must possess a sound knowledge of basic human resources and employment law, a good knowledge of all clerical and specialized functions in the company, a basic understanding of the company's organizational structure as well as an extensive knowledge of personnel policy and procedure and federal and state laws regarding employment practices Responsibilities and Duties: Answers frequently asked questions from applicants and employees relative to standard policies, benefits, hiring processes, etc. Maintains compliance database Acts as a liaison between the organization and external benefit providers and vendors Assists in enrollments and terminations of employee benefits Maintains accurate and up-to-date human resource files, records, and documentation Maintains integrity and confidentiality of human resource files and records Provides support to the HR department as deemed necessary Coordinates background checks, employment verifications and drug testing Completes monthly reports on employment activity and attends meetings as needed Administers policy and procedure updates Processes unemployment claims as needed Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment and benefits laws and regulations Performs other duties as assigned Requirements Education and Experience: Associate’s or bachelor’s degree, preferably in human resource related field of study One year of relevant experience Familiarity with Microsoft Office products and HRIS systems Competencies: Communication Critical Evaluation Relationship Management Available Benefits: Comprehensive benefits package 401(k) and profit sharing Paid holidays & vacation/sick time Supervisory Responsibility: None Work Environment: This job operates in a professional office environment and requires the use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones and photocopiers/scanners Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
