THERE IS ONE FULL-TIME CONTRACT HUMAN RESOURCES GENERALIST POSITION AVAILABLE STARTING ON MARCH 10, 2025, AND ENDING ON JANUARY 01, 2027, WORKING 37.5 HOURS PER WEEK.

Your Role:
Provides Human Resources services to leaders and employees of Starling Community Services. Provides support and guidance to leaders and employees in relation to recruitment, employee engagement, policy and procedure interpretation and compliance. Advises and supports leaders and employees using a strength based and solution focused approach in problem solving. Supports leaders and employees to role model and implement anti-racist and anti-oppressive practices. Manages employee health-related claims such as WSIB, STD, LTD, Pregnancy and Parental leaves. Assists the Manager in assessment, co-ordination, preparation, and presentation of training activities. Prepares, writes and preliminary scores job descriptions and maintains the job evaluation system.

YOUR TALENTS AND EXPERIENCE:

Four years of experience in a Human Resources environment. A certified human resources designation is an asset. Previous experience in the delivery of employee training and development initiatives an advantage. Knowledge of human resources practices, labour law, Health and Safety/WHMIS legislation and Employment Standards Act. Alignment with the agency’s commitment to antiracism and anti-oppression and able to build authentic relationships with front-line staff, leaders, team members and community partners. Proven ability to achieve high levels of customer service with adaptability, flexibility, and resiliency to manage quickly evolving needs of leaders and staff. Highly developed verbal and written skills; works collaboratively with cross-functional teams. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and intimate working knowledge of the Internet. Experience working with Human Resource Information Systems an asset.

Recruitment:

  • Works with Equity Leader to closely examine intersectionality of equity strategy and recruitment strategy; makes recommendations for modifications and prepares and writes revisions for job postings and job description files.
  • Assists leaders in the screening and recruitment of employees as required.
  • Responds to and redirects employment inquiries to appropriate departments.
  • Conducts information interviews with potential employees as requested.
  • Assists leaders with the preparation of online forms related to HR and payroll

Job Evaluation:

  • Assists leaders with the development and writing of job descriptions.
  • Maintains and updates the job description files.
  • Facilitates the job evaluation process maintaining records of evaluated and non-evaluated positions.
  • Co-ordinates job evaluation meetings and maintains electronic record on the JobChart system.
  • In consultation with Director, provides preliminary scoring of new or revised jobs.
  • Provides follow-up administrative activities resulting from evaluation outcomes
Responsibilities

Human Resources Consultation and Support:

  • Researches a variety of topics and legislation in relation to human resources issues and practices and makes recommendations to HR Director and leaders.
  • Provides leaders and employees with information related to organizational policy interpretation and compliance.
  • Supports leaders and employees to role-model and implement anti-racist and anti-oppressive practices.
  • Advises and supports leaders to implement responsive leadership tools, and strategies to enhance employee relationships.
  • Advises and supports leaders and employees using a strength based and solution focused approach in problem solving.
  • Communicates changes to organizational policies and procedures.
  • Consults with legal counsel to mitigate potential risk to the organization.

Recruitment:

  • Works with Equity Leader to closely examine intersectionality of equity strategy and recruitment strategy; makes recommendations for modifications and prepares and writes revisions for job postings and job description files.
  • Assists leaders in the screening and recruitment of employees as required.
  • Responds to and redirects employment inquiries to appropriate departments.

Occupational Health and Safety:

  • Recommends and implements improvements to the Health and Safety practices to ensure compliance with legislation.
  • Manages Workplace Safety and Insurance Board claims and communicates with Payroll to ensure that all claims are processed and monitored.
  • Co-ordinates modified work programs for WSIB claims.
  • Assists employees in making STD, LTD, claims and preparing for Maternity, Parental leaves.
  • Manages the disability process for leaders and employees, including a return-to-work program.
  • Communicates with representatives of the Group Benefits Provider regarding disability claims to resolve problems and share information.
  • Ensures that health and safety records are established and maintained in accordance with legislation.
  • Provides guidance and acts as a resource to the Health and Safety Committees as required.
  • Responsible for the administration of the Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP), updating and distribution of electronic brochures.
  • Enters and maintains employee occurrence reports including case, incident, accident, and treatment information.
  • Works with leadership teams to ensure that each site has the appropriate number of certified first aid and CPR trained employees.
  • Works with leadership teams to ensure that each site has the appropriate certified health and safety representatives.

Training and Development:

  • Co-ordinates and assists with orientation session presentations for new employees.
  • Conducts orientation presentations.
  • Assists leaders to identify and assess employee training and development needs.
  • Assists the Director in the development of curriculum, preparation for and delivery of internal training initiatives.
  • Assists leaders to identify and secure external instructors when necessary.
  • Co-ordinates agency employee engagement and recognition events.

Administration:

  • Responsible for maintaining and updating the agency Policy and Procedures electronic manual and informing employees of changes to such.
  • Makes revisions to existing policies and prepares initial drafts of new agency policies in consultation with the Director.
  • Assists with Personnel file maintenance.
  • Drafts and processes a variety of documents such as letters, memos and reports, ensuring legal requirements are met.
  • Maintains all Human Resource reference materials.
  • Assists leaders in meeting personnel file requirements for licensing and accreditation.
