We are currently looking for a Full-Time Human Resources Generalist/Payroll Administrator (Eastern Region) located in Montreal, QC reporting to the Vice President, Human Resources.

The Human Resources Generalist (Eastern Region) is responsible for supporting Spicers Canada in all areas of human resources with a strong focus on payroll and employee relations. The Human Resources Generalist will work closely with the other members of the Human Resources Department to provide customer focused and effective human resources support service to the Eastern region employees of Spicers Canada.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Completion of a post-secondary school diploma or certificate in payroll or accounting;
  • PCP designation required, CPM designation considered a strong asset;
  • Fully bilingual in English and French
  • Minimum 3-5 years’ relevant experience;
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of staff and management;
  • Strong knowledge of spreadsheets and databases, with a track record of accuracy and attention to detail;
  • Experience with ADP considered a strong asset;
  • Strong communication skills (both oral and written);
  • Proficient in using MS Office and knowledge of HR databases;
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment;
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality; and
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and handle deadline pressure well.
  • Strong knowledge of employment law and Quebec employment legislation;
  • Experience dealing with unionized and non-union employees

Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Vice President Human Resources, the duties and responsibilities of the Human Resources Generalist/ Payroll Administrator, include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Coordination of new employee onboarding and orientation process;
  • Process employee payroll data;
  • Reconcile earnings and deductions and prepare journal entries;
  • Prepare, coordinate and maintain employee documentation;
  • Prepare, reconcile monthly/quarterly workers compensation reports;
  • Administer garnishees and third party demands;
  • Prepare, coordinate and submit government remittances (i.e. CPP, EI and income tax);
  • Responsible for the accuracy of the organizations statutory government remittances;
  • Prepare and submit ROE’s;
  • Prepare, reconcile and submit year-end reports (i.e.T4, T4A, RL-1s);
  • Prepare, reconcile and submit year end workers compensation reporting;
  • Prepare, reconcile and submit year end summary source deductions. Liaise/coordinate with external stakeholders (i.e. government representatives and/or internal or external auditors);
  • Liaison for ADP
  • Prepare annual pension statements from a payroll perspective;
  • Coordinate payroll and/or other projects, and provide status reports to management;
  • Prepare all month end payroll reports;
  • Administer benefit programs – enrollments, changes and reconciliations;
  • Administer pension plans and employee changes;
  • Communicate with a variety of internal and external parties for the purpose of ensuring accurate processing of payroll deductions/garnishments;
  • Draft various human resources letters (employment agreements, medical letters, disciplinary letters, etc.);
  • Coordinate the exit process including conducting exit interviews
  • On-boarding of new employees including creating new employee kits, setting up mandatory training, up-dating the HRIS system, providing orientation and ensuring all required forms and background checks are completed;
  • Prepare employment verification letters;
  • Send out internal communications and provide translation support when needed;
  • Manage STD & LTD cases
  • Travel to assigned branches to support management when needed; and
  • Other duties as assigned.
