POSITION OVERVIEW

The HR Generalist will provide support to the HR department and the Director of HR in all aspects of human resources management, including recruitment, onboarding, performance management, disability leave management, employee relations, payroll, and compliance. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on our organization’s people practices, ensuring alignment with AFN’s mandate, policies, and goals.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of progressively senior HR experience, preferably within the non-profit or First Nations sectors.
  • Certified Human Resources designation (CHRL) is an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian labor laws, including the Canada Labour Code, Human Rights Act, and Occupational Health and Safety.
  • Proficiency with HRIS systems (e.g., Bamboo HR, HR Downloads) and MS Office.
  • Excellent communication, conflict resolution, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
  • Bilingual (English/French) is an asset.
Responsibilities
  • Recruitment & Staffing: Manage the full-cycle recruitment process, including interviews, background checks, and job offers.
  • Employee Relations: Advise and support managers and staff on HR policies, employee performance, and conflict resolution.
  • Onboarding & Orientation: Coordinate employee onboarding, conduct orientation sessions, and assist with employee recognition programs.
  • Training & Development: Ensure compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training, track professional development, and support career growth initiatives.
  • Performance Management: Assist with performance reviews, provide advice on performance management practices, and support retention efforts.
  • Payroll & Benefits: Administer employee benefits, process payroll information, and ensure accuracy of employee records.
  • Offboarding: Facilitate the offboarding process, including exit interviews and preparation of documentation.
  • Other duties as assigned.
